Invention of the mobile phone!
- which it is argued by many, would have led to better co-ordination & mobilisation of the strikers & may have led to the fall of the government !!

The Socialists have us believe that all the working class are grafters and that the middle classes are just born with it all given to them and that when they get a job they don't work at all for their money and that it's so unfair that even though they worked really hard in their education (while their 'working class' counterparts were getting aled up) that they get paid so much more. That's what socialists believe is it! ;D I suppose by the same "logic" I could say all rightwingers believe "wars fuel the economy" rather than being a drain on a nation's finances as any analysis will show you, but that would be as daft as your statement above. The irony of this, Rhodesy...

Was the speed at which it was done rather than the closures which was the issue. If it had been done gradually so that other jobs could have been created then people's lives wouldn't have been so badly effected.
Instead both sides ended up at loggerheads with both sides trying to crush the other. No good for anyone.

"fucking stroll on " hmmm reasoned debate , I see Has that temperature of yours gone down yet or is that missing thermostat issue a permanent thing with you ? It's easy to take one bit of information out of context and then run with it when you're not thinking clearly because of illness I guess . Still maybe an early night will help with your disposition . That's the sort of answer I expect from Sif....You're not Sif's brother are you ??? I guess that temperature issue is still affecting your ability to think clearly and give intelligent responses . You obviously decided against the early night then

The Wapping strikes and the Murdoch dominated last 25 years, through Tony Blair and Alistair Campbell and finally leading to this whole phone tapping broohaha are all consequences of the miners strike. There are so many, at not much of a stretch you could throw in Sky sports and premier league football, although there was probably an inevitability to those events at some point, it may have taken a fairer form. Who knows?

I was originally talking about my perceptions of Thatchers psychology and her subsequent reasons for taking on the miners NOT about the economic future of coal in this country , if you bother to read....... In fact it was in response to another post not even posted by you , but you decided to wade in ......then feel patronised . Maybe your sense of humour's not quite working at the moment ( ahhh we get back to the thermostat issue once more ) Anyway.......

Heavy subject. Historians and sociologists say it was a cross roads, between old Britain and the future. I miss the old values of the past, and I think Thatcher AND Scargill are equally at blame for the mess that followed. What do you guys think? Thatcher forced her idealistic changes on the country and fucked it right up. Scargill, although in the main was proved right, made it easy for her through the way he acted. She did more long term damage to this country than that done during the war. I loathe the evil fucking harridan and will dance a merry jig when her death rattle passes her lips. Cameron too is attempting to force through similar idealistic changes, which are made in a way that is almost impossible to reverse as they well know. Bastards all of them, and you could include Tony Bliar in that too unfortunately The materialistic, selfish and narcissistic egotism which is so prevalent in todays society can be traced back to Thatcherism. Fucking cow. Couldn't have put it better myself.......she was one evil twisted bitch..........

A horrible evil cow in my opinion, I for one will do a jig when she dies... If it wasn't for the Falklands war she wouldn't have got another term of office, and maybe just maybe we wouldn't be in the mess we are now. Thatcher didn't just fuck the mining idustry she screwed up the steel, and building industry while at the same time extending the gulf between working and upperclass, remember yuppies?? all this power to the financial sectors with little / no monitoring all stem from the 80's and Thantcher endownment mortgagaes rememebr them funny that they were introduced in the 80's under no contraints. The one and only thing I can thank Thatcher for is the chance to buy my own property, and inherit 25 years of debt until I finally pay it off.

Can someone explain to me why the miners had such massive pay offs in the name of redundancy when, if anyone else is made redundant you only get the statutory redundancy pay of £230 / week (or thereabouts) for every full year you've worked at the place? ???

..and that is the irony of the miners.
They hated Thatcher for saying there is no thing as society and individuals and families etc.
Yet they were more than happy to leech of the country and society as a whole.

Whatever the rights & wrongs e.t.c. I think the mere fact we are still 'discussing/having heated row about' the strike 27 years later demonstrates the impact it had.
