Obviously we've needed one since Coatesy was in short trousers, but go past Baines (too good) and Warnock (too shit) and you do tend to hit a bit of a brick wall in the Premier League.
And even the default "what about Ridgewell?" card has been removed now he's turned up at the Baggies.
Anyone know of any in the Championship or France/Germany/anywhere else who could be realistic - and, crucially, Pulis-friendly, in the summer?
Obviously we're looking at 6' 1"/13 stone minimum, preferably with experience of 100 games at centre-half.
If we have got £5-6m and £40,000-a-week to throw at it, surely there's a decent one somewhere?
One that I did notice was the Holland left-back, Pieters, who plays for PSV and who nearly joined Newcastle in the summer?

I don't give a flying monkeys what anyone says or thinks but I know Pulis is a huge fan of Wigans Figueroa.
My personal suggestion would be him as well probably. Either him or Martin Olsson.

Think we can rule out Pieters due the fact that he is still in his early 20's and has no PL experience. Their are few "Pulis friendly" full backs about perhaps Figueroa from Wigan, he is big and strong, but is he any better than the players we currently have? It will be a tough role to fill but it is very important to sign a proper left back in the summer.

Olsson is the player that came to mind for me also. The problem is that there aren't really that many to choose from that we could attract. Pulis would expect a full back to be solid defensively but in the modern game, full backs tend to be better at attacking and less so at defending!! Be nice if a youngster could come through to fill the position but I'm sure that's just wishful thinking.

You can rule out Pieters on the basis of him coming from somewhere called "abroad". Pulis classes "abroad" in the same way that most of us view the existance of Santa and the Tooth Fairy Can't see past Bardsley TBH Plays for Sunderland - Check Doesn't come from "abroad" - check Can play (not neccessarily well) in multiple positions - Check Bit of a thug - Check Skinhead haircut - Check Works aaarrd - Check The only downside from TPs perspective is that he is a bit of a sawnoff, being a mere 5'11"

Figueroa:
- Black - Around 6ft - Can do a long throw - Can take a decent set-piece - Will be after a move back to the Prem at the end of the season
I'd say he'd be first on Pulis' list for a new LB. That's if such a list exists.
EDIT - He also has a fair bit of Prem experience and he's friends with Palacios.

Hmm. Always thought that Figueroa, like Rodallega, was hugely over-rated from the bits and pieces I've seen of him. Wouldn't rule it out if they went down, though.
Olsson seems a bit too attacking for Tone. He'd get repetitive strain injury from slamming his water bottle into the dirt of his technical area every time he ventured into the attacking third.

If Mike Pejic isn't up for a Paul Scholes type return from retirement, then I agree with the first post. Let's do some scouting abroad
As an aside, great to see the 72 team members get a great reception on saturday!
