www.thewestmorlandgazette.co.uk/news/9561149.Re_think_hope_over_plans_to_cull_Canada_geese_on_Windermere/''Shocking... appalling '' I hear you cry...but sadly the Canada Geese that frequent the shores of the lakes could be no more. Personally , I think it's an afront to all the nature lovers up there , and furthermore is an afront to Canadian Geese civil liberties. If the birds want to shit in the lake as nature intended , then so be it is my view. Why should ancestral slob of a farmer dictate whether these beautiful birds have the right to graze on his inherited land or not.? This whole situation could have a profound effect on the tourist industry and seriously damage the image of the Lakes as a whole. I intend to right to the Queen , and urge you all to do the same , instead of fucking abite with your ipod , laptop , phone or some other form of hi tec modern day shit.... Put your 'acne' cream dine and stop fucking texting.... This is England our England ....Not some Curry house in Eturia. We could lose a valuable member of biodiversity in feathered form. So... GET OFF YOUR ARSES AND DO SOMETHING... ! mumf Peoples Republic of Cultural Awareness & Biodiversity Fegg Hayes Branch (All private donations to be sent by private message to 'mumf') Thankyou.

Send them back to Canada I say. Apparently only 1% of them have a genuine claim to be here in the first place.

They are not native to this country and breed at an alarming rate. They need culling, have you ever seen a shit off one of these things?I have seen the damage they cause on a golf course and the amount of shitting they do.Imagine what it is like at the bottom of a lake? Get shut of `em.

I can think of some humans that aren't 'native and breed at an alarming rate' but they don't shoot them...!!

Gotta say I strongly agree with mumf here (the exception that proves the rule I guess ;D) Although having read the link, the RSPB seem to like applying double standards. I had a long and involved argument with one of their chief biologists a few years ago over their support for the Spanish attempt to completely wipe out a particular sub species of Shelduck . Apparently it was in the interersts of racial purity , no less See this link for evidence of their double standards . uk400clubrarebirdalert.blogspot.com/2011/12/rspb-silently-supporting-culling.html

They are only talking about culling 200 of the birds. Nowhere near enough to solve the problem, in my opinion. The buggers really are increasing at an alarming rate.

Can't see what the problem is to be honest.? The lake is deep enough to absorb the birdshit , and as for crops , well I didn't know there was much grown up there...? I know the birds aren't rare , but killing them isn't going to go down well with the tourists or locals. A counter productive exercise if ever there was one I would have thought. It's not exactly Westport Lake is it..?

in fairness to the dog whisperer, i would say that the muck on the bottom of the lake bed would eventually be good for water life
