If Swansea are a breath of fresh air then I would rather my air stink of shit.
Our football may have been shit for much of the season and it was no better today in all honesty, but let's be honest, their style of play is equally as boring.
Play pretty little sideways and backwards triangles, 5 million passes, one shot on target in 90 minutes, and that from a free kick/corner. Almost every forward or positive pass they played was either intercepted, went out for a goalkick or out for a throw in.
What a boring game today's was and to be honest it was as much to do with their so-called brand of football as it was ours.
What a load of shit they were (not that we were much better but that is not my point).
ps...Dyer was very impressive as was their no42. Was that the ex Reading Icelandic fella? Apart from that, they were toss!
EDIT - No 4, Caulker (on loan from Spurs I think) was pretty decent as well.

Crap isn't it?
I've said on another thread that the idea is to get the blend right.
Sometimes we are far too one dimensional for our own good, bordering on dire and the other side of the coin is some smart ass manager trying to play football for the sake of it.

I'm glad that someone else was as bored by their style of play as I was. They seemed to spend most of the game with the ball in their own half!

What did you enjoy about today's game from a Swansea perspective?

The problem for us today, was that whilst Swansea were neatly tucking in their passes and having the lions share of possession, we can't hope to score. We still won 2-0 how the fuck we did it, i don't know, but for all their silky passes, they didn't score once ;D

Why Fred? What did you enjoy about today's game from a Swansea perspective? You're telling me that you wouldn't appreciate us being able to play a little bit of what they're playing. Compare the way they lost an away match to the way we would lose an away match. I know, a defeat is a defeat but i pays me money and would appreciate a little bang for my buck! Although we were much improved in the second half in all honesty. But thought we were absolutely shocking first half, two goals or not

I thought I was watching rugby the amount of time they passed the ball backwards. You couldn't get 2 sides further apart in the way they play if you tried. I think potentially they could struggle next season once clubs have worked them out.

Fred, I understand what you're saying but they had 1 shot for 74% possession and that was when the game was over.
Their playmaker did his stuff on the edge of his own box.
They are the best 5 a side team I've seen down Stoke.

Today's performance would have been acceptable in or first or maybe second season but when you are in your fourth and have spent millions I would expect to see at least our midfield to be able to pass the ball better. I agree Swansea totally over did at times and didn't really threaten but I don't want to see my side chasing shadows against what is just a Championship side finding its feet in the PL. When your best 2 players on the pitch at defenders (Wilko & Upson) it kind of tells it's own story. I don't want TP to go I just want to utilise the vast resources he has had in a more exciting way. I though the so-called second string in Valencia played much better footy.

Why Fred? What did you enjoy about today's game from a Swansea perspective? I'll answer for him. They passed it pretty well but lacked any real cutting edge in the final third. It wasn't just in their own half, it wasn't just 2 yard passes for the sake of it and it certainly wasn't just between their back four and goalkeeper. Their number 7 was smashing rarely wasted a ball and was constantly available to recieve it. Shame we can't afford the luxury of a few players who are comfortable on the ball. Oh yeah we have one he's not allowed to play though, he's been a very naughty boy.

Completely toothless and struggled to create anything from open play.

I enjoyed today's game. I think both teams could take a page out of each other's book. Swansea played good football but couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding. We are strong and physical but never seem to play from the back. When under pressure we don't play ourselves out of trouble, we just launch it forward and then have to do it all again. If I had to watch one or the other, I would play Stoke's style as I found Swansea a little monotonous, but a mix would be good.

Like I say Fred, I would be just as displeased to watch us performing how they did today as I would be with an abject surrender of our own with our own brand of football.
Aside from Dyer, whenever they tried to be positive, they kicked the ball out or gave it straight to us.
They were appalling. It may have been a bad day at the office for them but it wasn't much different when we played them at their place.
I was bored shitless and that was because their football was as boring as ours.

Agree with this, the ideal performance is somewhere in the middle. We can't pass to a stoke player, or only ball forward is a 50 yard hoof and we are so static and slow it is unreal. Pass, move, cross score. Not hard is it?

Was genuinely suprises how easily we nullified their play , breath of fresh air, well maybe not today but Swansea fans can pretty pleased with how they approach away games !
Would swap our style for theirs in a heart beat !

It did just seem like it was passing for passings sake at times. Most of it in their own half, and alot of it invloving the keeper and the back 4. Dyer impressed me again (as he did in the reverse fixture) but bar from the chance early on they created very little and didnt really get behind us much. For all their possession I didn't feel uncomfortable once which is strange considering our recent home form. All in all an efficient and comfortable performance. Just what the doctor ordered.

All about confidence. Important to break that losing run. Beat Norwich and confidence just grows and grows and the play gets better. That's footy for you.

The great laugh was when the added time went up at the end of the first half ajd they had the ball. They had one minute to get a goal before the break. They had possession for the full minute and failed to get out of their half. It was one of the funniest things I'd seen at a football match.
It was also quite funny that their tippy tappy set up our second goal.

They are the best 5 a side team I've seen down Stoke. Said about them being a 5 a side team at the match. That said if Sinclair scores it's a different game. The thing I would say is that while I have no desire to see Stoke adopt their style, it would be nice to see our players relax a bit on the ball and improve on our passing. If we could do that and play our normal game it would be happy days.

To be fair to Swansea, they are currently in quite a comfortable position in the table and about 95% guaranteed to be playing in the Premier League next season.
On top of that, they have currently scored two goals more than we have, conceded four less and did actually beat us at their place. Furthermore, they have spent a mere fraction of what we've lavished on free transfers in recent years.
Of course, some of their play involved passing for passing's sake and they did indeed play themselves into trouble on more than one occasion. Mind you, we can hardly claim that our hoofs down the field don't occasionally set up gift goals for our opponents.
As for someone saying they didn't feel threatened once today, well, if Sinclair had buried that free shot at goal in the first three minutes we might have seen a different game? And Begovic did pull off a world class save at the end!
We were too strong for them today but I still tip my hat to Swansea for what they have managed to do since being promoted. It takes all styles to make up the Premier League.

Likewise, if our efforts that hit the bar and post at 1-0 had gone in.

get real boys. swansea played us off the field. they outpassed/played us with embarassing ease. dont think we passed it more than about 3 times before losing ball/lumpping up the pitch. corse thay didnt cause us much pain where it mattered - just as well really or they could have won easily. dont forget its their 1st season and our 4th - they spent nowt compared to us. lats face it we 're not good to watch pulis is taking easy option just beeiing ultra caution/defensive and not playing proper football.

Swansea apparently had 74% possession, but only were in our half for 46% of the game, which says it all really.
