What if? Monumental words those aren't they and they seem so synonomous with our history as a club.
Last night is another in the long list of what if's for me.
I have no real problem with the team he picked to start the game, save for Collins obviously, and I thought that 10 of the lads that played were outstanding for 60 minutes.
Fuller and Jerome put in a monumental shift and must have covered miles of ground down the flanks, creating problems, running the channels and playing as auxilliary full-backs at times, but after 60 minutes, they were royally fucked.
Palacios was fucked as well, as you would expect and Salif was treading water following his customary booking.
IF we had taken a full squad and had been able to bring on Pennant, Etherington and Whitehead, or even Walters or Whelan, maybe we could have sustained our effort for 90 minutes instead of 60.
I am so so bitterly disappointed yet strangely immensely proud as well. The Stoke fans were truly amazing. The scenes in Cathedral square for 2 days and the sights around the ground pre-match, then in the game, was truly outstanding.
The team were great for 60 minutes, and performed much better than the so called first team a week earlier.
IF ONLY we could have bombared them and got a goal. Who knows what could have happened.
The pinnacle of my Stoke supporting life has ended with yet another WHAT IF and IF ONLY and yet again, Tony Pulis has proved why he will never ever be truly loved despite taking us here in the first place!
