I'm going to get myself an iPad this weekend. Just wondered if anyone else on here had one and if you can answer my questions please:
1. I'm thinking of getting a wifi only one to save on monthly subscription. What can I do with it when I'm offline? (trains, holiday, etc)
2. Any must-have apps?
3. How do I get movies into it (can I put DVDs onto it like I would songs onto iTunes?
4. Can I read books on it like a kindle, and how do I purchase them?
Thanks in advance for your support.

There are loads of apps and movies etc but you don't get a dvd or even a cd drive with them. They are great for watching them, you just have to download them. You can read books on it. There is a kindle app or you can read ebooks or listen as I do to audiobooks, again downloaded. I would say torrents but it is illegal you understand ;D Remember, the mac range does not suffer from the viruses etc so the torrent sites are not so scary for those who would break the law I am currently listening to the audiobook Stalingrad which I have already read but it is excellent. www.amazon.co.uk/Stalingrad-Antony-Beevor/dp/0141032405/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1330043123&sr=1-1-catcorrThe real downside of the ipad is that anyone who is seen with one looks a twat ;D

Is it the i-pad 2 ur purchasing ?why i ask is with the i-pad 3 launch just round the corner(end of march if rumours are led to beleive)it may be wise to hold fire i.e possibly a reduction on the price of ipad 2...

Great new App out called AV player. Just drag and drop movie files straight on to it through iTunes (or wifi). No need to convert and wait hours now. Only costs £2.

Yes, it is the iPad 2 I am looking at. Wasn't aware that the release of 3 is so soon. I'm away next week (work - alone) so wanted it for then but I guess it makes sense to wait. Do you know any more about it (what price it will drop to? - it seems pretty standard everywhere, nobody bar amazon has any different pricing. Did this happen to the iPad 1 when 2 came out?) Thanks

Think the price of the i-pad(the first one)dropped roughly £80 when the i-pad 2 came out..

There's less paintwork on the Mona Lisa. Well if I had her for ten minutes she'd be covered in whitewash.

Regarding the wifi when out and about Do you have an iPhone? Yes I do... why? You can set the iPhone to tether its Internet connection. That creates your own personal hotspot so your iPad can connect to the Internet. Speak to your network to make sure there is no extra cost

Speak to your network to make sure there is no extra cost thanks for that mate - have looked into it and that will work well. £3 extra a month to upgrade to higher data package. Wouldn't have known about that. Cheers

One of the best decisions I've ever made to get the iPad 2. With the correct apps you'll never be off it.
A few highlights (I've got loads but won't bore you...):
I've got my work and personal emails on it. Great for quickly checking them and then browsing the web.
I watched Inception in HD on the flight to Alicante last week, then beat Valencia on the return flight on FIFA. If you have an iPhone, you can use that as a game controller via Bluetooth, which is pretty sweet.
When I went to Besiktas I checked in using the BA app and had all my travel insurance documents stored on it.
As mentioned above, I use my iPhone as a personal hotspot for Internet connectivity when I'm not connected to a wireless router.
Aside from the usual fun apps, I highly recommend CloudOn (basically gives you MS Office on the iPad which I use for work related documents); Dropbox and Splashtop (you can control any computer on your home network via your iPad).
I'll probably leave the iPad 3 but will get an iPad 4 then this baby is going on a wall mount and will be a neat little control panel in the house.

Best thing I've ever purchased! Really? Bloody hell, Ive got one and been thinking I might get rid some time soon, I can see they are useful in some cases, I got mine to use on train journeys mainly, lot easier than a laptop in the shit space you get, but for me not worth the money I shelled out if I'm honest.
