He's fucking awful and has been most of the time he's been with us.
One good game in ten I'd say.

Whelan 0 for me. Do you know apart from the looped high free kick into the box for the goal he never completed 1 pass to a stoke player in 90 minutes.
Not being controversial now, but can you name me a worse centre midfield player in the premier league for any club for what they do. For me he is the slowest, worse passer of a ball in the league. I'd have Deano any day over him. This season Rory would be up there with him, but i'd take any other midfield player at any other prem club than him.
Throwing things at the tele today when i watched him numerous times in acres of space try to pass to a stoke player, only for it to go nowhere near!!!
Then, the amount of times players glide past him, he ends up chasing with his chris waddle looking run, and hacking them down.
Can't fault his effort and commitment to playing for Stoke and really want him to do well, but bloody hell, find a stoke player with a pass and stop hitting the front man with your daisy cutting corners.

I have done. Our passing is shocking, but today, tell me what Whelan did? Never completed one pass for a centre midfielder in 90 minutes! Deano did, Collins did, others who can't pass did. He didn't.
So why my finger hovers over most of them, it ends up pointing straight at him as a centre midfielder to help take the pressure off his defence for a few minutes by at least finding the same colour shirt as his with a pass.

I'm usually a fan of Whelan but he was absolutely dreadful today. He literally did nowt, well apart from a cross which he should be producing anyway. Gave the ball away so much and easily the worst player in our team today.

Our pass completion as a whole must be the worst of any team in any league this season so far, including non league, seriously.
Credit for the win though today. A lot of it is down to confidence, even the best sides can look shit at passing and general play (Arsenal, Chelsea) when confidence is low.
Just need to get back on track now and secure prem status. Fine line between winning and losing, confidence is one of the biggest factors.

I honestly didn't notice him in the first half. Name me one central midfielder in the Premier League who's more absent than Glenn Whelan. Usually, the central midfielders is the one's who mostly have the ball and routes. I don't know, he might be hard working? I don't know, I haven't noticed if he is that either. He never ever plays the ball forward. Have a look at that in the next game. Me and a mate did that ones. He passed the ball all-in-all 18 times. 12 of them was easy, simple passes backwards. 5 of them failed. The man made one pass, one fuckin pass forward in a whole game, and that was to Whitehead on our bloody side of the pitch.
I know he's a top bloke and all that, but so is Robert Plant and he's not playing in Premier League is he? Sell him in the summer and bring in James McArthur from Wigan Athletic. We'll get around £2-3M for Glenn I believe and we'll get McArthur for around £4M now when Wigan will get relegated,

I used to work with a Sheffield wed fan, who said that he wasn't,t all that good, at the time. Why we didn't,t go for brunt instead I don,t know, also when we got kitson we should have gone for the lad that,s now at wolves. I suppose that again is down to pulis style of play.

I though both Whelan and Whitehead were shocking today. Slow, poor passing (Whelan even from deadballs) and tackling.

Thing is, Whelan is supposed to be the player who keeps us ticking, the passer.
Sorry, but for an international footballer he is so average it is untrue.

Bollocks. No centre midfielder will ever look great and have high pass completion rates because we don't move and make space, you try watching a Stoke game again and see what options the centre midfielders have available when they recieve the ball.
You watch any of our CM's (even Dean Whitehead at Sunderland) at other clubs and they look 5x the player e.g. Whelan for Ireland.
We don't play a game which is suited to Centre Midfielders and I honestly think you could put Xavi in there and he'd struggle.
EDIT: I'm not necessarily saying that Whitehead and Whelan are good enough and we could definitely do with some more quality in CM but unless we adapt to incorporate them more in the game then it's relatively pointless.
I think this is why the CM hasn't been a priority, as they aren't really part of Pulis' gameplan (attacking and possession wise).

I like Glenn, I like his commitment and work ethic in the face of our midfield adversity. More importantly, Tone likes him too, so this debate is a non starter

Glenn is a frustrating player as he is better than he performs.
His average outings are just that - average but he could be better.
Take today, his passing wasn't that great and his delivery from set pieces poor barring the excellent one for the goal and a corner we should have scored from.
If he could improve his consistency then he'd be a much bigger influence for us.
Despite what I've said, he'd play every week for me and at present his partner would be Deano.

I'd be interested to know what the answer to the "Glenn Whelan problem" is?
Take a look around folks, there's not a lot is there?
Perhaps we could give Tony another £8M to sort it out in the summer?
The central midfield, like the full back positions are problems that haven't been addressed for half a decade and I don't expect it to addressed any time soon either.
I don't even think the manager has any inclination to address it either. We are a long-ball obsessed team with no desire to play any positive, constructive football through the midfield.
You can't even say we're direct any more. We're now just lumping it forward for a striker to either chase, flick on or win us a set piece.
I'm genuinely starting to worry where it's leading.
