When he does get service he just falls over anyway, or attempts over-head kicks instead of bringing the ball down or getting his head on it Hang on a minute, let me get this right... are we criticising a Stoke player for sending an acrobatic scissor-kick fizzing just over the bar? Yes we are because it was a stupid decision given the time and space that he had! If Delap had smashed the ball from 35 yards against the bar but in doing so hadnt picked out a player who was clean through on goal wouldnt you be a bit miffed?

All i hear on this board is people moaning about Crouchies ability/work rate etc. Forget that.
...my problem with Crouch is not personal, more that just by him being on the pitch he makes our style of play even more awful. Exactly like when he plays for England...sub-consciously the rest of the players have a default setting to pump the ball 70 yrds up to him. Not his fault as a player...but we are miles better off when he is not playing!

I feel quite sorry for Crouch. Took a personal gamble to come to Stoke (he didn't put a 10 million quid tag on his own head, Del Boy Redknapp did that) to play football. Unfortunately, despite his height advantage, he's not the best header of a ball, which is where he'll come unstuck at Stoke Regular service from 2 good wingers (i've given up expecting anything from midfield) to his FEET would see a different player. Crouch was a very good player prior to signing for us! I think he does very well to show commitment and effort in spite of the difficulty he has adjusting to our 'game'. Which is no means a poor reflection on him, just the truth.

Of course, all the match reports today are filled with rueful comments about the "relatively simple finish" that Crouchy squandered, foolishly smacking a head-high outswinging cross just over the bar with an overhead kick when he could have simply tapped in for a "relatively simple finish." Oh except they're not are they, because it would be a ridiculous thing to say.

His style of play was to have a 1-2 with another forward for one of them to be able to get into or to the edge of the box, look at where he has played and with whom, the style that previous managers employed to make the most of the striker combination, and don't get me started on the ball to our said forwards.

i despair of this board, without a doubt he is the best forward we have had at the club since the 70's. He has a consistent scoring record at decent clubs, not to mention england. Fashionable he is'nt but then nor are we. (sorry fuller lovers i love him too)
The fact that we as a team can't engineer chances for him to stick away is the problem.

Crouch showed what he is capable of with his two fine goals against Blackburn, where incidentally he received quality balls in from the wing. If you must criticise then I suggest that you concentrate on Etherington and Pennant or even Palacios who stood and watched while the Valencia lined up his amazing shot!

From where I was, you could see that he had time to bring it down and give himself a better chance of scoring. Maybe he didn't realise this, and thought he had to go for the early hit. Everyone around me was a bit disappointed with it, but in another part of the ground, I'd imagine it looked spectacularly unlucky.

I thought he held the ball up when it was played up to him. And people expect him to win EVERY header, thats not gonna happen against any centre-halves. He won 80% of balls to him last night yet people continue to jump on the bandwagon and say he never wins any headers, absolute bullshit.
He looked the only player likely to score with some great knock downs and if that bicycle kick had gone in it would have been the best Stoke goal ever and he'd be a hero on here today.
Get real and get off his back

This. People need to wake up and smell the fucking coffee! It's all very nice trying to twat bicycle kick when your pissing around with your mates down the park, not when you have the opportunity to bring your team back into a massive, massive game. People around me were talking about it as though it was the best thing they had ever seen..."If that had gone in...." blah blah blah. If he had brought it down and scuffed it in then we would be in a much better position now! What is the difference between Delap smashing it into the boothen from 40 yards and Crouch blazing it over. The only one I can think of it PC is there to score goals and his was a much better, easier chance! But most people don't dare say a bad word about him....fucking ridiculous That is one of the most absurd posts I've ever read on here. +1. Valencia marked him well and were allowed to by plaing 1 up top. They had a centre half behind him and 1 in front, they didn't give him an inch and he couldn't get up for the header. He's a good player and I think we've seen that this season although yes he is out of form. As for the overhead effort think we're really picking at straws there. If that went in you'd all be fucking climaxing. Strikers have to make decisions in a second, they ain't got all day mull it over like us. He saw an opportunity and took it. It's not like he hasn't done that kind of thing before either eh???

I think Rory costing nothing says it all... dropped? What on earth are you talking about.. He has made 25 appearances this season and started 19! As in Crouch being the 5th pick for strikers, that says it all! Not always, but he is occasionally, and he still has more merit than Crouch does. Yeah, 5th: Jerome Fuller Walters Jones Crouch Sidibe If you believe that you honestly know fuck all about football ! Why don't you look up a few career stats and put those alongside and see where he ends up. Jesus wept I too thought Jerome did well when he came on the other night, but that's only because he is a typical battering ram of a striker who chases lost causes into corners. If we are going to improve our style of play and hence our league standing we now need to use crouch as a starting point and improve the personell around him. I believe we should have left crouch on with Jerome the other night for instance or try starting crouch with fuller or jerome. Again in my opinion of late I don't see what walters has offered to me he plays more of a midfield role than a striker. Whereas if we had either Jerome or fuller linking up with crouch I think we would be instantly improved. Currently I honestly believe we could make messi look average.

A decent effort and the ONLY bright spark from Stoke. Woe betide a Stoke player shows any flair I'll say it again - we're a footballing backwater and have fans to prove it.

The title of this thread says it all really the answer is a bit of class. He has scored goals like that in the past. For instance we simply do not have another player that could of even attempted that overhead kick ! Anyone on here who is questioning his overhead attempt should never complain about our utterly boring style of play again, because as soon as anyone dare attempt anything different they get slated. Could you imagine how differently the media reporting would have been had we got a 1-1 against Valencia with a goal like that and to be honest he wasn't far away

Crouch brings nothing to our team if we continue to play the ball to him like morons.
We just can't seem to get it into either the manager's or the player's heads that straight, high balls to him are fucking useless.
He simply isn't that sort of player and it's beyond me why we think we can suddenly make him into such a footballer at his age.
He isn't strong in the challenge and he doesn't win battling headers.
What he does have is great technique on the deck, can link the play really well, has a good finish and has the ability to pick off full backs at the far post to score his headers.
Unfortunately we have decided to neglect all those parts of his game and turn him into a target man.
I think he's done well in the circumstances but looking at how we utilise him, I haven't a bloody clue why we bothered to sign him.
