As most have twigged long ago a regular as clockwork event is the periods of loosing the plot where Tone unfathomably decides to rip up the formula that provides the best results and exciting football to boot.
It features his and/or Kempo's mental breakdown that manifests itself in fear formations and his infamous little snipes in interviews at supporters who try and remind him of the obvious.
Happily a game eventually comes around where he knows he has to go for it and the formation and players that have been begging to be played duly appears. Once that bridge has been crossed and the manager satisfies himself with mumbles about supporters relying on hindsight all is well for a few months.
I'm optimistic that a clash against a side like Valencia will be seen in the same light as the cup game against West Ham last season and it will see a return of the Tone we all admire.
Nothing to lose and up and at em is surely the attitude and go from there through to the end of the season?
Come on Tone let's put that daft fucker side back in the locker!

This is definitely the turning-point. Brit will be rocking, both wingers starting... we can beat these.

Shit or bust. Can see a sending off or two affecting the result.... I bet they're preparing as we speak at Waterworld diving board.

I pray to God your right mate. usually a game like this would take up my thoughts at every moment, awake or asleep. Unfortunatley after the last couple of months I couldn't really give a fuck about it, The only thing I'm looking forward to is the end of the season. I just hope and pray Pulis is lulling us all into a false sense when he says he is "Scared stiff" of them.

I think it's too late now. The worm has turned for many people. They've gone from grudging appreciation to wanting 'Pulis out' Unless they are prepared to go back on themselves after tonight???
Hope so, TP loves making some people look like mugs

All Pulis needs to do is pick his best players in the right positions
The players will be fired up for this and will do the job regardless of manager

If it's any help, I've seen in a TP interview on the stoke website, that he has "hinted" that we need to play two wingers to gain necessary width.
Ethers and Pennant flying down the wing again, with the second coming of the long throw. That sounds good to me!
I personally cannot wait for what will be one of the biggest nights in our history! Put aside what's happened in the premier league and get behind the lads. Goooaaaarrrrrnnnn Stoke!!!

Thing is, we were shit against West Ham in the QF last year. They could have scored a hat full in that 2nd half if you watch the highlights back.

I don't think anybody will be throwing any toys out if we set out to give them a game and end up losing having tried to win with the best team available. This is the only game I've been looking forward to for quite a while. I agree with what RAF says: Which in turn will get the supporters even more fired up because they know we are really going for it and not trying to park the bus, thus Pulis gets the atmosphere he asks for and the fans get to see the best team fielded, everyone is happy,...Hopefully, Mark W is right in his OP. We do need to kick start our season again, because the longer this slump goes on, the more bitter it will become. OS.

Understand where you are coming from but the approach was very different to what had gone before. I'll take Valencia having chances as long as we are also having a go. I'll take anything except a situation where we dont give ourselves a chance of winning.

Well it was good to see the team set up again in the way that most people recognise as the best to exploit our strengths.
It produced a far more positive second half as the players got back to doing the things that make the team tick after weeks of being messed about by change that is inexplicable.
It is highly likely that now the lost chord has been rediscovered by the management it will be played through to the end of the season.
It won't win us games like last night where an opponent even shore of some of its stars had far too much know how and ability. You can't after all expect a formation to paper over the inability to retain and pass the ball that has been woven into the squad.
It will I'm sure see an upturn in results and game interest for the rest of this term and will certainly provide a comfortable end of season.

That would make for a fascinating end of season Meet the Manager forum wouldn't it? Cannot see that happening! Surely PC and "The Family" must see the same as us? I'm not sure you see things the same when you are so close to it and wrapped up in it. It's a bit like watching a game at the stadium and getting wrapped up in the moment and the atmosphere. Try watching a game back on TV then compare what you think with your feelings actually at the ground.
