There is no chance that TP will approach Thursday with all out defence as the tactic. I truly believe, looking at the bigger picture - it will be a case of 'going for it'. Scenario 1 - we go for it and take a lead to Valencia - this means for the 2nd leg he can rest some of our attacking players for the swansea match and go all out defence in Spain, playing a midfield 3 of Diao, Whitehead, Delap and probably 3 CB's Scenario 2 - we lose, due to being to adventurous - this means for the 2nd leg - he won't bother, send a complete 2nd string (which for Stoke City is the defensive players mentioned above). Scenario 3 - A draw - Pulis will have to send a half decent team to Valencia, with the Swansea home game coming up. The last thing that TP will want - is for the result to be close. He will want the tie to be decided (as far as possible) in the home leg. Given that we currently approach every league match with the aim of keeping it tight for 70 minutes and seeing if we can sneak a lucky goal from a set piece, then I'd be surprised at anything other than an all out defensive performance. At the moment Pulis could not set a team out to "go for it" if someone bought him a book called "going for it for negative dummies - a guide to decent football management" Just accept that it's going to be dire and painful. I've found that it saves the disappointment on the walk back up to Heron Cross after. I can cope with walking back to Heron Cross disappointed its the walk from Heron Cross to the Brit, devoid of any optimism or exitement I'm struggling to deal with.

I reckon that keeping it tight is exactly what he will try to do.

so exactly what should he have said?... something like; "Whats that Nige?... Valencia? ... do you mean that shower of shite thats won 6 la ligas, 7 coppa del reys, 2 x uefa cups and twice were runners up the champions league?.... pile of wank.. we'll shit 'em" No, but i don't see the value in building up an opposition which we already know are superior. Why not something to pick the fans up! Why not "yes, they're good side, but they won't have faced anything like this in La Liga, or anywhere else for that matter, we're going to get right up in their faces and get balls flying into the box from all angles. We're going to make sure they leave here knowing they've been in a battle!" something like this, get their players worried and shitting themselves before they step onto the pitch, not giving them confidence to play their own game.

For fucks sake. We looked like cunts all over the UK on Saturday and we will end up looking like cunts all over Europe on Thursday at this rate. Get some testicular fortitude TP or you'll be behind Macarthy in the dole queue

I get your point and I think it's a very good one, whether TP actually thinks that far ahead however, I'm not so sure. There's certainly a logic in what you're suggesting though, that's for sure.
