I remember going to Oldham years ago when they had a really old score board made up of licht bulbs. The away end was just a grass bank which had a load of small stones on. Stoke fans starting throwing stones at the score board and all you could hear was pop, pop, pop as the bulbs smashed

No rivalry whatsoever with oldham! oldham lads are often down at stoke and the same with a few stokies at boundary park, when england played wales at old trafford in 2004 we went to oldham to meet up with mart fielding and the oldham lads, shrewsbury joined us aswell, then we all went manchester together, great lads and a great day out

Can't believe that was so long ago.
If I remember rightly there was some pretty grim racist chanting from Stoke fans during the game and this was followed by civil unrest in Oldham town centre later that night.
Were the two linked or just a coincidence?

Were the two linked or just a coincidence? From memory (correct me if I'm wrong), an old chap in Oldham had been beaten by some Asian lads a week or so before the match. The match was virtually an afterthought that day

from what I can remember we needed a point to stay in the play offs (as it was the end of season) loads of people had already got tickets then that old guy got done over.
So for some it meant a riot and an important game. Thankfully Gunnasson got a goal. Cant remeber fully but think it ended 1 all

Gunnarsson equalised then Dadason scrambled in a late winner. We absolutely dominated the second half on a very water logged pitch

I went with my old man, aged 14. Fully aware of what was going on around us and can still remember some pretty despicable chanting coming from both ends in the ground in unison. Football was used as an excuse for a racial ruck, simple as that.
Good away win, like.
