Maybe the great Davesviews could start a new thread with hourly updates about who the likely candidates are (according to his informed sauces)

Get in! Absolutely over the moon! Now let's get an English manager in and we can go back to being England again. What does that mean exactly?

What's the point? He won't get anything more out of the team than Capello and both the press and players will be constantly trying to undermine him because he's a foreign manager. Back to square 1. Unlike Mcclaren or Keegan you mean? The press will destroy anybody - regardless of their nationality. Only results matter. I think they'd cut Redknapp some slack. He knows how to play them. That's not to say that I think he's the right man for the job.

Give it to Redknapp - it's win/win. It unites the press, the white van men etc behind the team. He does well - happy days! He doesn't - the press lose their cause celebre, he crawls off with his tail between his legs and can't undermine whoever the manager is, and we can get someone competent in.

anybody put Noel Blake's name forward? Highly regarded in the FA set up, and him decapitating John Terry in the 1st training session would be brilliant! ;D

Pearce should be manager for me. Knows the up and coming talent and is English. Didn't do great with the u21's but give him time and he will come good. Give him time to gel, and the younger players get used to playing together would be the best option. Like Germany...
But you know it will be Redknapp. The FA can't turn down a bit of controversy

Capello has been treated appallingly by the car crash that is the F.A. and the xenophobes in the press.
We will underperform in the euros as usual, and the blame will lie squarely with the clueless fools at the top of the game... as usual.

In all honesty Capello's resignation doesn't bother me.
In truth I've lost all interest in the international side.
The players are over-rated, overpaid and show no passion. Bog average players end up getting caps (Bothroyd, Nugent et al) Too many pointless friendlies against poor opposition The boring media frenzy before big tournaments The captaincy being handed around like pass the parcel The same group "golden generation" players who have achieved nothing for their country
The England team aren't of any interest to me.

The FA have come out of this very badly, as usual.
What made them think they could go over the managers head on footballing issues? If he was tied into a long contract I could understand their actions as a way to push him out, but it's not as if we weren't getting rid of him anyway...

I reckon Capello has been looking for a way out for awhile now, so he's decided to say something controversial to stir the pot a bit.
I personally don't give a shit who the manager is.
