I never liked the idea if him at Stoke City and said as much directly to Peter Coates as the Icelandics (for John, Icelanders) were exiting the club. PC was adamant that he wanted TP as the style of football gave the club a chance in the Championship and on to promotion. PC also fully committed to the club Academy development also fully supported by Phil Rawlins. I said at the time to both PC & PR that TP would not fully support Academy players bringing them through the system. Gladly I was proved wrong by PC in his choice of TP as manager at that time. PC & PR delivered in terms of the Academy despite the exit of Blake, Bennett and Pejic to name three Academy stalwarts. The Academy in terms of facilities is light years from what it was and the training facilities are proper Premier standard. TP has taken the club into the top half of the Premier League, playing in Europe and further than many could have wished for. Many still question TP's tactics. So are they genius, survival or clueless? Clueless. Reckon Sir Peter should try tapping up Moyes in the next couple of months. Nice big fat contract, few million to spend in the Summer. Might be tempted.

TP's job must be one of the safest in football and I'd even doubt relegation would get him the sack!

His teams will always be hard to beat but need to be really playing out of their skin to compete with the best e.g Win at home to Tottenham recently.
Pulis has a way of setting his teams up and this can be very effective at times but this season I feel teams have sussed us out.
I wouldn't say his tactics are clueless or genius but they really rely upon the all the players playing well as a unit as we don't have any player who can produce something out of the blue etc.
Well where will this lead us ? I would imagine we might get relegated next season.

Amos (ok it was his debut but still was hoping it would be De Gea) Evra (£5.5 million 190 appearances) Ferdinand (£33 million 254 appearances) Evans (no vidic maybe but still a regular with 64 appearances) Smalling (£12 million 29 appearances) Park Ji-sung (£4 million 131 appearances Carrick (£14 million 165 appeanaces) Scholes (united legend 469 appearances) Valencia (£16 million 59 appearances) Berbatov (£30 million 106 appearances) 14 Hernandez (6 milllion) 45 appearances that 11 cost £120 million with 1512 appearances at the top level between them. (Above nicked from another thread) Hell of a weak side eh!!!! Weaker than the one Blackburn put three past. Come on Rob. You can't pick a teams worst result/performance of the season and use that as a benchmark.

Merely pointing out that for all it was still a strong man you team, it was weaker than the one that lost at home to Blackburn. Defeat was likely but it wasn't inevitable. How we set up made sure it was.

Are we back on the Man Utd surrender again?
Jesus wept.
Was the United team weak? - No, there was still a lot of quality throughout, despite injuries. Did we expect to go to United and turn them over? - No, we were still the under-dogs. Was this probably our best chance to get a result there? - undoubtedly.
If we'd have been positive and tried to get something out of the match, who knows; we might have just achieved that.

Clueless, the guy has had 4 bloody seasons to bring in a left back and still plays centre backs in that position. He then gives contracts to players with no legs Delap, and Salif, who we have planty of cover for in the CM position (palacios, Whelan, Whitehead, Arismendi, Tongue, Culvert) and then lets our only cover for the flanks Marshall and Soares, leave the club.....Whats the point in having good multi million pound strikers if you take the service for them away? and then play strikers on the flanks (Jerome & Walters) when a winger gets injured.....

I find it strange that we are giving Pulis such a hard time after Saturdays match, when I thought his tactics were about right for that match. We easily matched them in dreadful conditions. If you're looking at it in the long run, then I think criticism is justified. He has the squad totally out of kilter, overloaded in some positions and no back up or specialists in certain positions at all. Whatever people say, if Coates wants the Academy to produce first team players, we don't seem to be going about it in a sensible fashion. People keep saying people like Marshall and Cuvelier aren't up to PL standards because they haven't even played in the Championship, and they can't step up, how many games had MacClean had at a high level? It is a question of having faith in your players. If Coates wants it to work he is going to have to instruct TP to play these players, because they will all get fed up and leave.
