I think its time Walters had a prolonged spell on the bench.
He offers no threat on goal and has very limited technical ability.
I know he has played out wide in the past two games, but it has just gone to prove that he isn't cut out to play on the wing either. He can't beat a man, struggles to retain possession and is defensively uncomfortable (as proved tonight & against WBA).
Jerome & fuller MUST be ahead of him in the pecking order. Jerome has scored recently and even Ric has looked more lively.
Out wide I would much prefer to see shotton, as atleast he has the power to attempt to go past a man and is more sound defensively.
Walters should be a squad player and not the first name on the team sheet. I'm afraid aslong as he starts week in week we will continue to look pretty toothless upfront.

WELL SAID THAT MAN ! Hes offering us absolutely sod all recently and needs to be benched asap. I'm seeing some serious similarities to Cresswell at the minute (and I have always been a Walters fan). He is far too negative when in possession. There were 2 or 3 occasions where he collected the ball today and never once looked forward, always with his back to goal. Its not good enough, and hes not good enough at the moment.

I have said he's been shit all season, championship player at best.certain sign of a player who ain't that special is one that has to run round and chase lost causes like a dick head to get recognition.that makes up for the skill or lack of apparently

we all know that walters is not a championship player on his day he can be fantastic like near the end of last season but jerome should be starting over him.

Stokie25 - I don't get this "knackered" arguement. Granted he has played more minutes than anyone, but he has been poor for not of the season. Infact he has been pretty average since we signed him apart from a purple patch around April last year.
At this level we need abit more than hard work. And sadly that's about all he can offer. I cannot fault his effort though.
Oh how I wish Ric was 5 years younger...

Said all along he is a decent squad player how he became an untouchable when the stats just say the opposite is another secret held inside the baseball cap.

I think alot of stoke fans confuse working hard with skill!! Walters is a distinctly average player, who you can actually count on one hand the number of really good games the lad has actually had. I will never doubt his work rate, but as the previous poster says, take away April purple patch and the rest is poor.

Thats fine bud, but how about noting the fact that hes started over 20 league matches this season and scored like 2 goals which werent penalties. Not so good now eh?

I agree Walters should be a squad player unless he is in good form (which he was second half of last season) but to say he's a championship player... how did he manage that goal against Chelsea? Bolton? Several MOM performances towards the back end of last season? Start of this season he was one of our best players IMO but has faded since then.

So why has his career been spent in the lower leagues with rejection in the top flight every time? The only reason we employ him is because he runs for 90 mins

I dont know what to say here . Walters was brilliant for us at the end of last season and also the beginning of this. Work rate is a big part of the game at Stoke and he shouldnt be decried for that. He has picked up some injuries recently and maybe they are taking their toll. Could have been rested tonight. We have the squad

I wouldn't say he has been brilliant at any stage of this season in all honesty.
I just think that he has very limited ability and we will struggle to create and score if JW is one of our forwards.
How many other teams in this league play a striker purely based on workrate? Because technically he is not good enough. He isn't scoring and he isn't creating. So why play him constantly?
It's just bizarre.

'He needs a rest'
No, he needs dropping. He played above himself for two mad months at the end of last season but other than that he's been what he is - a championship-at-best plodder.

Agree but he's not alone the team is full of plodders we must have the slowest team in the Prem. I wonder what a group of Plodders is called? A potter of plodders maybe ;D

You can't just blame Walters for the penalty! Maybe if Wilson didn't just stand there, after the freekick decision and got back in position then it wouldn't of happened!

The frustrating thing for me Suffolk, is that it's not like we don't have any options. Start jerome and bring on fuller or vice versa. There is no need for this obsession with Walters playing.
Tone probably thought last night "oh I will take Walters off at 70 mins to keep him fresh for Saturday." he quite clearly isn't up to it. But aslong as we continue to see Walters at the top of the distance covered charts then he will continue to play.
When we first signed him he struggled and wasnt starting. He then had a brief spell of form which ended many many months ago. So why is he still being constantly picked?
If I was pennant I would be sitting there thinking that I have more talent in my little toe than Walters, but he still gets the nod out wide.
Also, I don't think anyone is really criticising Walters on the basis of what happened tonight, it's over a prolonged period of time that he hasn't good enough.
