Not a bad thing provided we bring in a specialist full back to replace him, he's been a great servant to Stoke but his best years are definitely behind him.

love to know why he hasn't been involved. A great player at LB when fit...shame to see him go especially with out lack of natural LB's in that position.

I could see him leaving in the Summer, but it would madness to let him go in this window unless Pulis has another left-back coming in. It's already an area we are lacking in as it is.

He's far better at CB than at LB and we are pretty well covered with Upson and Woodgate as backup. If we replace him with Ridgewell then it's a good move IMO.

Higgy is great but if we replace him with a younger player and a proper left-back then its good for everyone BUT we have to have cover coming in.

Our resurgence in form last year coincided with Higgy's return when he was largely responsible for our Wembley trip with his bullet against West Ham. He is always dangerous at corners as he is so good at losing his marker at the back post. He was rushed back this year and was understandably not at his best when we got beat at home. If I think of the games that Woodgate has had at fullback, then Higgy can consider himself very harshly treated.
He has been one of the mainstays of our squad for several years and I feel being let go rather prematurely if the rumours are correct, particularly given our shortage of proper fullbacks. I remember watching him for the reserves against Chelsea at Nantwich a couple of years back and was impressed how professionally he approached the match compared to the Kitsons who just strutted around looking pissed off.

I remember thinking exactly this watching the reserves at West Ham around the same time. Totally committed at whatever level. I'd keep him, but he probably wants games by now and he ain't getting near the squad.

The only side I've seen him linked with is Leeds (fingers x'd Snoody this way)
Always be one of my favourites, never ever let the team down imho always tried hard, even on bad days, gutted last year for him in the FA Cup. Sunderland exit was all forgotten for me, he never did anything wrong.
Importantly he was the ONLY decent signing in that window when we came up, shot back home and helped keep us up.

we can't let him and Collins both go without getting in a LB that would be ludicrous. Of the 2 Collins out every time. At the moment we'll really be struggling if we lose either Ethers or Wilson.

I just said on the New Signings thread the same cobham, something doesnt add up.
lets hope that we have 2 "shoo ins" for Left back and left wing and thats why there is no point in Marshall, Higgy and Collins staying.
I cant bring myself to say the "B" word.

If have him at the club over woodgate anyday of the week! Higgy puts everything on the line when he's played, and I'd defo have him for cover at cb over floodgate

Very sad to see higgy go but don't forget he refused to play for us at Southampton so he could move to Sunderland. I wonder how he passed the DNA test

Definitely need to have a replacement lined up here before we let him go.
If we could get £750,000-1m for Higgy, it'd be decent business give his age.

Higgy has done great for us and has been one of my favourites. Very sad to see him go. You'd think Ridgewell would go straight in at LB. A bit underwhelming, but he does fit the Pulis template to a tee. Not the worst deal in the world. A 27-year old Higgy swapped for a 33-year-old Higgy (maybe with another £1m going to Brum on top?) But essentially exactly the same limited, shite-on-the-ball, nosebleed-past-the-halfway-line converted CB type of full-back that we probably should be moving on from. I'd prefer we kept with Wilson in all honesty - and it does raise the question of what becomes of Wilson? Right-back? (and where does that leave Woody? )
