Not seen this mentioned on here as yet (unless I have missed) it but was interested to see Tony's comment on Barclays Premier League World on Friday night on SS2. There was a long article about Stoke's long term plans now they have become established at the top level.
Basically following on from the three year plan, Stoke are looking to invest heavily in their own academy rather than bringing players in. So they can start to develop their own grown local talent. He also said that for this to work it was vital we stay up so we can continue to fund it.
Obviously this completely contradicts a lot of peoples thoughts about the manager not intending to play youngsters.

Unfortunately you have made the mistake of drawing conclusions from what the manager has actually said rather than what you imagine he has said.
Don't worry though becasue there are many posters on here who will happily educate you in the ways of jumping to conclusions based on no facts.

Could it be Stoke developing players to sell, that would be a good way to raise income maybe?

If my memory serves me,i think i read an interview with TP in which he readily admitted that he's no fan of the academy system and preferred the old style apprenticeships but as uncle Peter has stipulated that player development/the academy is a priority he promised to give his full support to it?

Isn't the academy intrinsic to PC's long term vision of the club becoming self-financing?.....If it's at all possible for a premier league club to become self-financing that is?

Everton are probably the only self financed club aren't they? They'd be in a brilliant position if wages weren't so ridiculous.

Not sure Angry44,but i do think Moyes has done a miraculous job on the budget he's had to work with and if and when the welsh FA come calling on TP he'd be my choice as successor....

I think Wolstanton is in a better position than almost anyone to give us the truth behind our manager's attitude to our academy and I'd value his opinion as to whether he thinks this lepord can change his spots.

Regardless of what the manager does or doesn't think about playing young talent, the club (Ultimately Peter Coates) have now gone on record saying that in future they intend to grow their own talent. This has to make long term financial sense!

Right then stop all the boys being on computers, and get them outside with a tin can wrapped up in a cloth as this won't piss off the wingers in the street, then get them down to the club and all going well 5000 pounds a week job starting money. The Potteries could be the biggest un tapped supply of players to the world.
