Fuller - getting on, not replaced. Pennant - manager prefers a full back who can throw it.
What next for Etherington?

We started today with only one 'flair' player - Etherington
I agree

We do seem to be regressing. Not that we had much flair in the first place. I think it all comes down to the managers attitude. Playing people out of position and even more defensive minded. Delap playing when he is clearly past it

Our home record against lower - mid table teams is poor this season, the reason being we simply do not possess the guile or nous to break teams down when the onus is on us to attack.
I guess the answer to your question at the moment is yes, but Fuller is on the wane in my opinion.

I think I would use a word other than "flair" to describe Etherington to be honest.
One run aside, he was pathetic today in all aspects of the game. His attempt pass to put Crouch through 1 on 1 with Foster was the biggest example of being a "talentless fucker" I have seen since Danny Collins graced our team on a weekly basis.

I agree abut Fuller and has been for a while, but there is no apparent will to replace him like for like. And don't anyone say Jerome ffs. He's a runner.

I still dont see where Jerome will fir into the team on a regular basis, but he does at least offer some pace and a goal threat from the bench.
The farce on the right hand side of the pitch today should never be repeated again, if Pennant is so out of favour then he needs to be sold and new winger brought in pronto.

How anyone can say Ric is on the wane is beyond me.
He has just returned from a bad injury and hasn't played a single reserve game.
Despite this, his performance up front, on his own, against a very good Besiktas side, when he had no service whatsoever, is the best display from a Stoke forward this season.
Last week, at Liverpool, he did more in 4 minutes on the pitch than Crouch, Walters and Etherington did combined, in 90 minutes. Those that weren't there, wouldn't have seen Carragher con a free kick when Ric had waltzed through 4 of them to be through 1 on 1 v Reina.
No-one can say, with any real evidence that Ric is on the wane and for me, on the wane or not, we need him more than ever and today proves exactly why.
Without him, we have no flair, no creativity, no excitement and in all honesty, not a lot to get you out of your seat during 90 minutes of football.

I have argued on here previously that TP seems to struggle with " flair " players! These players always seem to have some baggage ( by way of a massive ego) but thats the price you pay for the talent. Historically I give you our own Alan Hudson, Best and Gazza. Now which of these players do you think TP could handle? Probably none! But surely thats an integral part of the job, man management! Dead right about Ric, though I think he may have done a bit last 15 mins!
