Yes I can confirm that there really is a clause in his contract that says he must play when fit.
What the contract doesn't say though is that he has to be totally wank every time he plays.

Apparently Santa has one in his contract as well.
Coat on, engine running.

His best game was Chelsea at home, but that was at centre back, it is not his fault I suppose that he ostensibly playing right back but if this clause does exist, someone needs sacking.

every time we lose so called fans blame the scapegoat. There are 11 players on the pitch not 1, most of you talk crap.

As many have said, it's not Woodgate's fault that he's being hung out to dry. He's a very nice guy and a good professional - but if it doesn't work it doesn't work and he needs to be on the bench, behind Upson in line for CB cover.

Can't believe we would agree to a clause like that in any players contract. Would have to be really naieve taking into account loss of form, disagreements and all the other things that could happen in the course of a season,

I doubt it. Sounds like a crappy bullshit rumour to me.

Of course there isn't.
Tone picks Woodgate at right back because he wants to pick Woodgate at right back.

Maybe Pulis was banking on him getting injured . . . just had him on a pay as you play contract so he could boast about an ex Real Madrid player on the books

If that was in my contract and I was Woodgate, i would stand up and say, im not good enough to play, i coultnt do it to my team mates.
So with that in mind, he surely isnt on a must play if fit contract, couldnt see him drowning the team to get an extra 40k in appearance fees.

got to admit the guy did play well rovers away! but Pederson is no Thomas, and Keane isn't a good enough manager to target him. Maybe we should get Huth to 'tackle' him in training

Let's face it, Tony just loves the fact he got a former England/Madrid player for nothing and forces to play him just to prove his point. The day he signed I bet he was around PC's office boasting "look what I got for nothing Pete" standing there at the door like some pathetic super hero

If the clause exists, do we really trust our medical team when they say he's fit, can't we do a BA test? ;D

Of course there isn't. Tone picks Woodgate at right back because he wants to pick Woodgate at right back. I'd almost prefer it if there was a clause. As it is, we're getting another window into a very odd corner of Pulis' persona. I don't think stubborn is the right word to describe it - it's something way beyond stubborness.
