Anybody have any particular song lyrics they're fond of? Possibly lyrics you can relate to for different reasons? You don't necessarily have to like the song, just the lyrics. These are a few I can think of off the top of my head. I imagine people can come up with some far better choices than these. " So close, no matter how far, couldn't be much more from the heart, forever trusting who we are, and nothing else matters " - Metallica " Long you live and high you fly, And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, And all you touch and all you see, Is all your life will ever be " - Pink Floyd " I'm not afraid of the truth no more, I'm not afraid of the lies I hid, I'm not afraid of the price of my sins, I curse the day for the wrongs I did. I'm not afraid of the things you know, I'm just a book for the world to read, My final words on the final page, Will be your name cause I believe " - Meatloaf " Take your time, think a lot, why, think of everything you've got. For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not " - Cat Stevens " From a distance there is harmony and it echoes through the land. Its the voice of hope, its the voice of peace, its the voice of every man. " - Bette Midler

Only time will tell, If the Rose isn't red anymore. And expressions are blank, Then you'll know who to thank. I'm only a wish in your well. I was paid to accept what was dealt, Like a fool I've been fooling myself. (Scott Matthews - The Fool's Fooling Himself).
The morning arrives, Realisation still inside. Will I ever get back home? Every feather floats alone. Day after day, The clock is ticking and winding away. Where are you tonight? I can still here the chimes. (Scott Matthews - Myself Again).
Great Musician, great songwriter, great guy. (Wolves fan!)

so,so you think you can tell heaven from hell blue skies from pain can you tell a green field, from a cold steel rail a smile from a veil do you think you can tell did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts hot ashes for trees hot air for a cool breeze cold comfort for change did you exchange a walk on part in the war,for the lead role in a cage how i wish, how i wish you were here were just two lost souls living in a fish bowl, year after year running over the same old ground what have we found the same old fears i wish you were here.

Verse from Innuendo by Queen:
You can be anything you want to be Just turn yourself into anything you think that you could ever be Be free with your tempo, be free be free Surrender your ego - be free, be free to yourself
Very inspiring for me.

I'm afraid of the dark Especially when I'm in a park And there's no one else around, Oh I get the shivers. I don't want to see a ghost, It's the sight that I fear most I'd rather have a piece of toast And watch the evening news.

We came across the west sea We didn't have much idea of the Kind of climate waiting We used our hands for guidance Like the children of a preacher Like a dry tree seeking water Or a daughter Had no halo had no father With a coat of many colours He spoke of brothers many Wine and women song a plenty He began to write a chapter In history Nice 'n' sleazy Nice 'n' sleazy does it Nice 'n' sleazy does it Nice 'n' sleazy does it Does it every time The thinking punk generation will know what i'm on about EDIT just removed the link, sorry Sal forgot the no nipple rule. I've put the live version for mumf and sausage This one is the buzzcocks, and probably the saddest lyrics i have ever heard (because i know so many people who aim low and fail to meet their targets) God, i hate Stoke on Trent, like a old woman past her usefullness and left to die on her own, sad. Why she's a girl from the chainstore Why she's a girl from the chainstore She told me my attitude was wrong I had to find out where she came from Why she's a girl from the chainstore Why she's a girl from the chainstore Her name was written on her coat Her life was a miserable anecdote She loved her mother and her father They never missed her birthday Listen to everything they said Like never miss your birthday Why she's a girl from the chainstore Why she's a girl from the chainstore A product of environment Another flesh wound in a tenement Why she's a girl from the chainstore Why she's a girl from the chainstore Why she's a girl from the chainstore Why she's a girl from the chainstore Facing Bernstein's barrier Waiting for someone to marry her Why she's a girl from the chainstore Why she's a girl from the chainstore Down there at the discotheque Waiting for someone to bite her neck. Before anyone starts slagging me, i lived in manc at the time and it was way worse than stoke. !

Wild one won't you please come home You've been away too long, will you We need you home, we need you near Come back wild one will you How can we live without your love You know that could kill you How can we carry on When you are gone my wild one So you go your way wild one I'll try and follow And if you change your mind I will be waiting here for you tomorrow For I would beg for you I would steal and I would borrow I'd do anything, anything at all To end this sorrow Wild one The gypsies warned of the danger You can laugh and joke with friends But don't you ever talk to strangers Although their offers may be sweet And I'd bet and I would wager Away you'll stray and never come back To those who love and made you The late great Phillip Lynott....

Across the evening sky, all the birds are leaving But how can they know it's time for them to go? Before the winter fire, I will still be dreaming I have no thought of time
For who knows where the time goes? Who knows where the time goes?
Sad, deserted shore, your fickle friends are leaving Ah, but then you know it's time for them to go But I will still be here, I have no thought of leaving I do not count the time
For who knows where the time goes? Who knows where the time goes?
And I am not alone while my love is near me I know it will be so until it's time to go So come the storms of winter and then the birds in spring again I have no fear of time
For who knows how my love grows? And who knows where the time goes?

Don McLean - Crossroads"I've got nothing on my mind: Nothing to remember, Nothing to forget. And I've got nothing to regret, But I'm all tied up on the inside, No one knows quite what I've got; And I know that on the outside What I used to be, I'm not anymore. You know I've heard about people like me, But I never made the connection. They walk one road to set them free And find they've gone the wrong direction. But there's no need for turning back 'Cause all roads lead to where I stand. And I believe I'll walk them all No matter what I may have planned. Can you remember who I was? Can you still feel it? Can you find my pain? Can you heal it? Then lay your hands upon me now And cast this darkness from my soul. You alone can light my way. You alone can make me whole once again. We've walked both sides of every street Through all kinds of windy weather. But that was never our defeat As long as we could walk together. So there's no need for turning back 'Cause all roads lead to where we stand. And I believe we'll walk them all No matter what we may have planned" Pink Floyd - High Hopes "Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young In a world of magnets and miracles Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary The ringing of the division bell had begun Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway Do they still meet there by the Cut There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps Running before time took our dreams away Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground To a life consumed by slow decay The grass was greener The light was brighter With friends surrounded The nights of wonder Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again Dragged by the force of some inner tide At a higher altitude with flag unfurled We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world Encumbered forever by desire and ambition There's a hunger still unsatisfied Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon Though down this road we've been so many times The grass was greener The light was brighter The taste was sweeter The nights of wonder With friends surrounded The dawn mist glowing The water flowing The endless river Forever and ever"

And, of course.......... Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart"When routine bites hard, And ambitions are low, And resentment rides high, But emotions won't grow, And we're changing our ways, Taking different roads. Then love, love will tear us apart again. Love, love will tear us apart again. Why is the bedroom so cold? You've turned away on your side. Is my timing that flawed? Our respect runs so dry. Yet there's still this appeal That we've kept through our lives. But love, love will tear us apart again. Love, love will tear us apart again. You cry out in your sleep, All my failings exposed. And there's a taste in my mouth, As desperation takes hold. Just that something so good Just can't function no more. But love, love will tear us apart again. Love, love will tear us apart again. Love, love will tear us apart again. Love, love will tear us apart again." Really touching lyrics....indicating the tortured soul that was Ian Curtis

Deffo winner right here....
Try to be best ‘Cause you’re only a man And a man’s gotta learn to take it
Try to believe Though the going gets rough That you gotta hang tough to make it
History repeats itself Try and you’ll succeed
Never doubt that you’re the one And you can have your dreams!
You’re the best! Around! Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down You’re the Best! Around! Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down You’re the Best! Around! Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ow-own
Fight ‘til the end Cause your life will depend On the strength that you have inside you
Ah you gotta be proud starin’ out in the cloud When the odds in the game defy you
Try your best to win them all and one day time will tell when you’re the one that’s standing there you’ll reach the final bell!
You’re the best! Around! Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down You’re the Best! Around! Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down You’re the Best! Around! Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ho-how-ho-own

Where did you go? When things went wrong for you? When the knives came out for you? Where did you go? All you needed was a friend. You just had to ask and then...
You don't have to have the solution, you've got to understand the problem. And don't go hoping for a miracle. All this will fade away. So I'm coming home. I'm coming home.
What did you learn? Locked away all on your own, chance and your head all blown. What did you learn? It was unfortunate. You missed your chance to find out that:
You don't have to have the solution, you've got to understand the problem. And don't go hoping for a miracle. All this will fade away. So I'm coming home. I'm coming home.
You don't have to have the solution, you've got to understand the problem. And don't go hoping for a miracle, yeah. All this will fade away. So I'm coming home. I'm coming home. I'm coming home.
But just for a short while.
