This season Jonathan Walters has played 2,200 minutes for Stoke City.
Appearances (mostly starts) in 29 matches from 28th July until 26th December.
No wonder he's not as sharp as he could be, however he needs decent service to him. He's not untouchable, but to quote directly from stokester1989..
"Walters is our very own Blue eyed boy and he is loved because he gives 100 Percent, he stays out last applauding the fans, he has passion when he scores he runs straight to the fans you can tell that he loves playing for Stoke. hes a team player a very hard grafter. he seems genuine thats why hes loved."
Now i know people like to have a go at every bloody player at times for some reason, but some people may need to use their brain before doing so.

Your bang on he is a squad player who for no logical reason has become an Untouchable works hard but so did creswell . No Walters bashing he has a valuable role to play but he isn't the centre piece of the team and yet we seem to treat him like Rooney . Except that he is. We don't look the same team without him. There's more to him than hard work, he's a good footballer.

The work he does is phenomenal and he's extremely effective, but you need a footballer alongside him like Crouch or Fuller, not Jones. Against Spurs, Walters and Crouch were awesome, and he always seems to perform better at home, but he needs a rest - he's human after all. It wouldn't harm playing Jerome against Wigan. Fuller and Crouch for me would be our best combination, though, if we want to keep it solid, why not play Walters on the right with Shotton behind him in the future? Jones and Walters were instrumental in the team's best Premier League run from March to May last season.

There's more to him than hard work, he's a good footballer. It amazes me that some people on here do not agree with this, there's a hell of a lot more to Walter's game than simply running around a lot. With out him we don't look the same team and based on the limited opportunities that our strikers are presented with, I don't think that his goal tally is at all bad. Walters is clearly burnt out and in need of a rest, I find it disappointing that people are needlessly getting on his back due to this. Same with Shotton, not played a lot of games when you think about it, still a young lad who looked to have a bit of confidence but it wont take long for some stoke fans to hammer it out of him sadly...

He just hasn't got the energy to get in defenders faces and cause havoc at the moment, deserves a rest, but my guess of him is he probably doesn't want a rest, he would rather play.

I don't think he'll be rested for Wigan and I reckon he's going to score..

He's one of the most intelligent users of the ball and space I have seen at Stoke. He will run the right channels at the right time, show for the ball and carry it at the right time and into the most effective areas. The amount of set pieces he wins us is so important as well.
