Shotton playing because he can throw. His development as a footballer going nowhere because he is playing for throws.
Delap brought on WHY? because he can throw.

WP played OK, Deano did his usual stuff as did Rory when he came on.....Ran around slowly, passed poorly, gave free kicks away!

Delap gave the ball away every time he had it and was lucky to stay on the pitch.

WP was blowing and didn't make any impact and Deano offered nothing at all tonight.

Would Whelan have made a difference tonight?

Delap should have been sent off applying the letter of the law.... WP was blowing but he does try to keep the ball and move it around....

Delap could have done with a pair of roller skates or something similar for Xmas day to keep up with the pace of the game - he was so far off the pace it was embarrassing rugby tackles and all. His throws were half decent but that was all he offered. We missed Crouch and Whelan tonight and playing Woodgate at right back is getting beyond a joke. It wasnt his worst performace but he aint a right back in a million years.

He didn't although our most dangerous moments were from his throws and he played a really good ball out wide to JP which is more than the others had done.

By that you mean Rory was in acres of space and passed it 20 yards to a team mate in acres of space.. We're lauding the basics now ffs.

I know pugsley, I'm merely pointing out he did as much (if not more) than the other two had done.

Delap's cameo appearance tonight was up there with one of his worst for the club imo and as others have said he was lucky to stay on the pitch.

Delap and Whitehead are the worst pairing we have in centre mid. I felt sorry for Palacios today, when under pressure he must have looked to Deano and seen the guy standing there with his thumb up his ass giggling at the fact he's being paid to do so. Then when we bring on Pennant, a player who needs the ball played a yard in front so he can use his pace to run through, we take off the one player we had capable of doing it to accomodate a frigging throw in that Guzan found more easy to defend than Shottons.

Pugsley
That is the biggest load of shite I think ive ever heard on here. Shotton was superb tonight. To say hes only playing because he can throw a ball is ludicrous and shows total naivity on your part.

Delap was superb when he came on. He gave the organisation we had been sadly lacking.
We looked more compact and stopped surrendering the midfield.
We pushed up 10 yards and had our best portion of the game.
The only question for me is who will partner Rory in central midfeild for every game over the next 3 years.

Delap is still the best midfielder at the club. Read into that what you want.

Surely it's not a complete coincidence that the biggest rest from first team duty that Rory's ever had has coincided with us playing someone else who can chuck it long.

potterpaul I must have watched a different game to you then. I thought Shots did really well. Please tell me why he struggled? I'm a big fan of shots and he has proved his worth this season but last two games he has looked out of his depth and used the wrong option a few too many times. Its not just showing in his abilities but also on his face, a few times now a bit of cofusion is showing. Think he needs a spell on bench with a few sub appearances just to calm him down and lift his confidence.

Shotton is a great prospect as a right back , play him there , he neither has the touch or awareness to play in midfield at the level we should be trying to play at
