One of the best players in the UK. Not a player who has given us any reason to hate him.
He didn't deserve the treatment he got yesterday.
I didn't join in. Neither did those around me. I'll probably get slated for this - but to me it was puerile, personal, and wholly uneccessary.

Completely justified that’s what home advantage is all about if you can get one of the opposing players rattled then we as a crowd have helped the team achieve its objective

I joined in and booed too, I also wished ill on the monkey featuring kirby clip wearing pansy and I sit in the QRailing stand! It made me feel good. Not sure on the Howard chant though, whilst it is funny and makes me smile I didn't join in.
Does this mean I'm not going to heaven now?

If we only booed the players you feel 'deserve it' i'm pretty confident we'd have been relegated in year 1 as we made a massive difference intimidating the opposition. I think you have the wrong team and a season ticket at Craven Cottage may be more appropriate

Couldn't we extend the "he doesn't deserve the treatment" to every player who gets stick?

But if someone started up the same song for say, Sol Campbell - would you all have joined in ?

That is totally different Redstriper and I'm sure you know it.
Associating any black man, regardless of their looks, with a chimp would be considered racist because of the traditional and long standing monkey chants that have been aimed at black players down the years.
Bale is white, he is an opposition player and a good one, and if there is any advantage to be gained by abusing him, then he is fair game.
That and the fact that he does indeed look like a chimp (he is no.3 in line in that famous picture depicting the theory of evolution) means that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the abuse he received at the weekend.
If it put him off his game or knocked him out of his stride and affected his game by even 1% then the barracking was more than worthwhile.

No where near the same thing though is it, as that takes it from banter/trying to put them off their game to racism, if that was the intended out come of the song then it would have been sung at someone else (with no one joining in). Why have I just replyed to that, what a stupid question.

Is Racism not merely a form of discriminating against or abusing someone due to a difference in their appearance beyond their control ? Therefore it is not a stupid question... justify the difference. This a a message board, where opinions are stated and challenged. I fucking hate that "its just banter" line.....If I walked up to you in a pub and called you a fat, bald cunt and then said - "it's just banter mate", do you just smile and walk away ? Dave, fair do's, you might be right

To be honest, if the abuse allows us to get underneath the skin of a class player and shake his confidence I'm all for it. I don't remember anyone complaining about the fans calling Bullard a Gyppo every time he got the ball when we played Fulham, it happens all of the time
