Hi All,
When i was a kid many years ago I did abit of course fishing and recently decided i'd like to start up again. I want to start float fishing at first and then eventually learn how to do carp fishing.
I have been gathering some cheap secondhand fishing tackle from ebay ready for the spring of 2012 when I intend to then take it up again. (Its too cold for me now at 47 lol)
What im after is any advice of what licence I will need and where I can get the licences from?
Where is the best place to get any extra tackle I still need?
Where are the best places/costs to go for a beginner.
And anything else you think I might need to know.
Kev

First of all you'll need a rod licence priced at around £26 for the season 'March-March' i think. They're available to buy on-line or from the post-office. Alternatively you can buy a licence for just the day or for just the week. You turn up at day ticket fishing waters and pay the going rate... Nice fishery in Cheadle called Blake Hall fishery, has several pools and one in particular that has got lots of carp in it around the 5lb mark. I would use around 5lb line on that pool because thats plenty. Pickerings is a good tackle shop in Burslem but also dont forget that good bargains can be had on-line.... When it is you're ready for the bigger carp then i'd buy good branded tackle. Shimano are very good and if you're still float fishing then i'd invest in a greys stalker rod which are available in 7ft and 9ft because these are awesome for margin fishing neer snags and reeds because they're powerful and you can bully fish with them because the last thing you need is to let a carp go in the snags and weeds. Happy fishing.... Edit - Above all else use a good quality fishing line too.....

Fenton and District (includes the canal and pools between it and the Brit) plus many others all around costs £34 and runs from January - January.
Can be bought at Dolphin (next to the canal) just off Whieldon Road, plus other places.

Fenton and District is the best value for money fishing in and around Stoke on Trent and always has been.
If you want the best local advice go to Pickerings and ask away. They are a very friendly bunch and certainly know their stuff, including the best of the local fishing.
By the way I'm 53 and cold January mornings are the best Grayling fishing days you can have.

It's a fine old art, which can take years to master, but fundamentally it's as simple as making the most moronic statement you can think of, but delivering it in such a way as the reader will think you genuinely believe it.
Oh, and putting "FACT" at the end of a statement of opinion usually helps reel a few in.

i think you are allowed two rods on one liscence but cant say for sure. tbh i have never heard of anyone being taken to court for fishing too many rods usually they are only intrested if your fishing without a liscence. i am thinking about joining fenton next year but i dont do winter fishing [im 49]. i would recommend joining a club then you can learn how to fish in your own time. if you want some easy fishing then pop down to cudmore th fish throw themselves on the hook. pickerings is the best tackle shop in s-o-t [no i dont work there] tight lines
