Firstly, I'd go without a shadow of a doubt. Always wanted to go to Napoli. Secondly, I hope Cavani and co rip Man City to shreds over there (on the pitch, not off).

I have been there twice.....as a footballing experience it is amazing. As a tourist type experience it has to be one of the worst, no the worst ever. Was there last year & their is a lot of building work going on at the moment, and combined with hot dusty weather/an early morning rush hour that makes Victoria Road/Lichfield Street look like a gentle B Road. You are always aware of whats going on around you, with traffic lights meaning jack shit & those cheeky vespa/pillion combo's getting very very close to you (its one of the favourite mugging techniques....snatch & speed)
Naples itself is a rough City, and you really do have to eyes in the back of your head.I would dread Stoke getting drawn there as we have had many a good Europa League experience so far & this would be a nasty comedown for sure. Also went there when visiting Pompei & Visuvius, and while waiting on one of the Metroline Stations had was aware of bags being thrown from the Housing block next to the station, landing on the platform. The entertainment being throw bags of shit at the tourists.....class.

I actually thought Tel Aviv was a shit-hole. Croatia and Switzerland have been a much more pleasant experience for me in terms of the surroundings than the games in the group so far. Kiev was good but only because it was cheap and some of their fans were superb with us.
I dunno....reckon the novelty might be wearing off. I'll see what Istanbul brings.

If we draw Napoli book yourself a few days in Sorrento and get the train in. It is hot, filthy and very rough in parts which will be even worse with an English team in town. And if you have the misfortune of going during one of the many bin strikes it's also rat infested.

Naples is pretty rough, we were advised not to go on the train due to people being held up at knife point when the trains pulled into the stations.

Been a few times from Sorrento to Naples on the train and to be fair never had any issues. Match day might be a completely different story though. You could always get a taxi from somewhere like Sorrento straight to the ground if there were 4 or 5 of you probably wouldn't cost too much for approx. 60km trip?

went there a decade ago.
"See Naples and die" is pretty apt. That was a joke made by the tour guide after meeting us off the plane.
The city has got some beautiful places, but the rough areas, and there are many, are frightening. Utterly frightening. Went to an Italian Cup game and there were 40,000 in there with a pocket of 200 Udinese. I was scared for them, and scared that anyone would find out I wasn't from NAples.
I would hate SToke to draw an Italien side away. After Heysel, they see English as fair game for whatever they want to do. Ask Middlebrough fans in Rome.
Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast are amazing, but I wouldn't watch Stoke in Italy for a pension. STabbings aots - why aren't the authorities making them play away from their city? Or perhaps a civil handshake would suffice, eh Sepp? <rolls eyes>

I lived and worked there for 3 years. It is an amazing place. Watched Napoli a few times when they were last in Serie A. They are very passionate fans to say the least. I know when they play in their league, they throw fireworks at opposing fans, to see if they can get the banners etc to catch fire. It's obviously not funny if you are in the away end, but watching it did make me smile.
It's just a case of using common sense when walking around the place. don't have expensive jewellery on and keep wallet well hidden. Unless you have got a death wish, don't drive out there. Having said that I drove for 3 years and didn't have one accident. It really was a case of "when in Rome, do as the romans do"

Been Naples a couple of times. Really run down but for some reason I find it a fascinating city. I do a lot of work out in the Aeolian Islands (just north of Sicily) so I travel from Naples or Palermo. Obviously it's a dangerous city but it wouldn't stop me from going.
Plus Vesuvius is just immense.

Its not a great city as far s Italian cities go and as others have said the better option is to stay elsewhere within traveling distance for the match. As for hooliganism, I know sometimes innocent people get caught up in trouble but one thing I learnt from my away days with Stoke in the 70's if you keep your head down and keep quiet trouble tends to pass you by and that would be my advice for Napoli

Having been out there for 3 years (as mentioned in previous post), you do not fuck around with the mafia, even the police dont. That is why the country is so corrupt. I once saw a dead body on the edge of the road, just up from where I lived. That what happens when you don't pay the mafia. If you get in with them, you never get out, only with a bullet. If everyone went along with your theory of don't go until its safe, no one would ever go there. It is a great city and has some wonderful sights. The neopolitan people are very proud people and once you get to know them, they are also very kind people.

Capri is very overrated. An Allegro was much more practical.

We once went into a bar in Naples, big group of us... all but one of us had a bottle of peroni (he doesnt drink lager) so he had a rum and coke. We were then asked to leave because the fact we all had beers and he had a spirit made him look like some kind of group leader, and the bar was worried it would offend any mafiosa present or appear as a challenge!

Just to add a bit of balance, I absolutely love Naples. Bags of character, good weather, gritty but charming atmosphere.
Not saying it doesn't have its problems, but it's one of my favourite cities.

I've passed through Naples a couple of times, I can't say I'd ever want to stay there, it looks dreadful. Hopefully Stoke won't get them but I'd find it hard not to go if we did. It wouldn't be pleasant though that's for sure.
Pricey,
Tel Aviv was ace mate, you must have been to the wrong places. City on the beach and as friendly a place you'll ever find.

On here and not causing trouble tonight . For all you Stokies (mainly that have been to the city before), would you go to Naples openly wearing Stoke shirts/ scarves if you drew them in a European game?

I enjoyed the beaches and the hospitality but apart from that I thought the place was a dump. Unskilled Sudanese refugees no doubt being paid a pittance to patch up the roads in Old Jaffa summed it up. Apart from the sea front the place felt half-finished to me. I should have had a day trip to Jerusalem on the day of the game because I didn't think Tel Aviv had much in it to recommend at all. Your username used to be coatesout, ha ha! ;D

In a word mate, no! whats the point bringing it on top for you, stick with the crowds, heard you lot have sold 800 good effort all things considered. The 800 is people that arent traveling with the club. City sent a message out to the 800 non official travelling fans warning them etc. Around 1700 are going. Anyway, good luck in Europe v Kiev and co. P.s Change your profile pic, even with the text editing it looks like shite
