Its becoming like a lottery.
You get taken over by a billionaire, then probably go on to win the championship 2-3 years later First it was Chelsea, then Man City, .......Next?

Small time yet Premier League winners? Yeah that would be the one they won with the lorry load of cash Jack Walker ploughed into the club.

They can't all win the championship and they can't find quality players that aren't there so it could have a neutralising effect. This influx of middle Eastern money might make the premier League more sustainable short term, through some potential hard times ahead. We just need a player or two worth pinching.

Quote/unquote: 'Venky's co-owner Venkatesh Rao told Monday's Lancashire Telegraph: "We have no interest in selling Blackburn Rovers whatsoever."'
Expect to see it announced tomorrow, then.

Qatar Petroleum would be a serious player in the Premier League with the funds they would have at their disposal. Why would they invest in a club with a smallish fanbase. The club has been in decline for years since Walkers money won them the premier league. If QP were serious about the Premier League then surely Everton who are up for sale would be a better buy.

Aren't there rumours of a large Indian conglomerate sniffing round Everton as well at the minute?

Everton and Aston Villa are probably the most likely Premier League clubs to be successful if they were bought out by Eastern Oil money.

I'd buy Sheff Weds if I were an Arab after a club. Peanuts to buy, pay of reasonably small debts in comparison to the clubs potential takings. Thousands of fans ready to return and a massive stadium already in place for redevelopment!

reckon we will be on the radar as well shortly.... Coates will make his money back i bet you! not a chance, o don't think it's about the money with Sir Peter of Goldenhill. While his companies are making sound profits he will never sell the club. The days he leaves this plant i think the situation would be very different and his family would be willing to cash in their investment. God help us if it's some rich company who are looking to buy us as a play thing such as Blackburn or Man City. I really believe there will be tears with some of these foreign owned clubs in the near future.

I really believe there will be tears with some of these foreign owned clubs in the near future. I also think that Stoke don't represent a good investment for a big foreign takeover. Limited fanbase potential and terminally unfashionable as a brand - a bit like Blackburn, I suppose, which is why I find the whole Arab takeover story a bit hard to swallow. Coates won't sell because we're more than just a business operation for him (although I'd feel happier if I knew what the rest of his family's long-term interests were). Agreed on Everton/Villa, or Wednesday as a longer term project for Arab money.

Exactly the kind of comment we used to revile and what we hated about the Premiership. Blackburn have won the premiership, and that was with less money than Coates has put into Stoke. Blackburn are no more 'smalltime' as you put it , than us.

Thanks for highlighting my quote RAF and commenting on it by making huge assumptions. Blackburn are smalltime premier league hard to argue against that. Along with Stoke Fulham West brom, wigan and a few others. The point I was trying to make is why would QP invest in small prem clubs when bigger options are available never once did I suggest Stoke were a better investment I actually cited Everton as a better option. Just to put the record straight

If they've got unlimited resources to invest, then you'd kinda think, they'd be looking to pump it into a club that has a much larger fan base than Blackburn.

Just to put the record straight I understand the point you were trying to make. The point I was trying to make was that had we been referred to as 'smalltime' by any other teams fans we would be apoplectic. For the record I too am bemused by their interest in Blackburn, as I would be if they showed interest in us. Paul, we only averaged a couple of thousand last year over Blackburn, regardless of season tickets. H
