Is palacios really that bad to play? He looked very sharp against Maccabi when he came on. Hope Tone's not giving him the Tunny treatment!

Well so far i've seen little to suggest otherwise. It seems TP cant bring himself to drop Delap, Whelan or Whitehead. Just like he couldnt bring himself to drop anyone to accomodate Tuncay, even Sidibe. Tuncay didn't get a game because Pulis didn't have the first idea how to use him. Palacios is TP's wet dream of a midfielder and the concerns with him are to do with his fitness. He's being eased in very slowly - it's worrying that he seems no nearer to full fitness yet, but if he was fit, he'd be a fixture in the side. You keep saying this but everytime i see the guy he looks a class above our current crop of garbage in the centre. We all know Shotton should be on the right if Pennant is out, but the manager will never bring himself to drop Delap...and he struggles to drop anyone hence the Huth scenario i.e trying to accomodate him by playing him horribly out of position.

Billy Glassback aka Paul Maguire played 30 mins and then missed the next 12 months through a mysterious back injury. Hence the nickname (he also looked a bit like Billy Whizz out of the Beano). I have been worried about Palacios' fitness since he signed. He doesn't seem to be getting any better physically. Only been watching them since early 90s so just missed Maguire. Did the fans feel he should have been starting? But Palacios has showed his quality with 2 consecutive through balls creating 2 great chances...we havent seen that from our midfield in years Those through balls need coaching out of him before he can become a regular Maguire was a victim of the boo boys following his injury. Seriously, Palacios just does not look fit. He is slow and laboured and is breathing out of his arse after 5 mins. There is a problem somewhere, because he is an excellent player.

Are you old enough to remember Billy Glassback? It took him months and months to get fit after we signed him. ;D Fit!? Our Paul wasn't even fit by the time we pushed him down the road to Boslem! Shame no JimmyP, guess Rory will be out wide right ... Glad Upson has kept his spot, him and Ryan looked our best partnership the other week. Crouchy and Walter, again, good to see TP sticking with the partnership that's done nowt wrong. We should certainly give 'em a game.

I keep saying it because it's true. There's a world of difference between the sedate pace of an already-won home game against dreadful European opposition than away at one of the best teams in the league. As quality as Palacios' cameo was, he still didn't look fit and was huffing and puffing. As soon as he's up and running (assuming he actually does regain fitness and isn't another Eustcae) we'll see him featuring more.

Is it fair to assume that our player of the season last year is now very much the fourth choice centre back at Stoke City?

Couldnt have been old enough ! But its ridiculous when the guy has proven he IS fit with some fine performances in Kiev and in midweek. Put it this way...is he that unfit to outweigh the cons of Delap on the right? Billy Glassback aka Paul Maguire played 30 mins and then missed the next 12 months through a mysterious back injury. Hence the nickname (he also looked a bit like Billy Whizz out of the Beano). I have been worried about Palacios' fitness since he signed. He doesn't seem to be getting any better physically. the knee was bad enough to put Napoli off. hopefully out of him and Ba we haven't back the wrong knee. If he was fit, he'd be straight in. At least he's training and on the bench though. I'd assumed he was very naturally fit. Hopefully he'll be starting for us soon.

Wenger never lets things drop does he? From the BBC Website:
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Aaron Ramsey is still feeling the effects of the broken leg he suffered 18 months ago against Stoke, saying the midfielder lost his touch as a result of Ryan Shawcross' controversial challenge. Wenger says Ramsey's speed of movement has recovered but that "it takes a long time."

That knee of his is in danger of causing him some real disruption.

Yes Ryan, Upson, Higgy, Huth, Woody ;D ;D Irrespective of how well Upson has been playing lately, I still suspect that TP sees Woodgate as being his first choice to partner Ryan if he's fit and I expect he would have started today if he was good to go.

It's going to be 4-5-1 isn't it? Thanks Pricey, yes it was ... Kempy reads em faster than I can type. And yeah, it looks like a traditional Pulis 4-4-1-1 ... Huthy must have said something out of turn to be getting the Lawrence treatment after sweeping all aside in last season's awards...
Thankfully Upson and Shawcross are quality (for today)...

I'm not suggesting that it won't. I think we did the right thing with Ba. I just hope we're right about Palacios' knee. Is he just not match fit? Or is there discomfort in the knee? Hopefully the former. He'll be excellent for us if fit. I also think Ba would've been, had he been able to pass our medical and stay fit.
