Marc was bought as a midfielder but so far, in the Prem at least, he hasn't shown the awareness of the hustle and bustle that central midfield needs. Is it worth trying him there in the Europa league - on the basis that he'll be under much less pressure due to the different nature of European football? Would give him a chance to build some confidence for a run there in the Prem at CM. Obviously that leaves a hole at left back but it won't be long before Higgy will be eased back.

How do we know he was brought in as a midfielder?
Remember, most people assumed Jon Walters was brought in as a right winger.

And the majority since then have been in defence.
Maybe, with the defence being solid at the time there was no way for him to break into the backline. So TP eased him into the team as a midfielder first (where he can also play)

i'm pretty sure Marc's long term future at stoke is in the middle of the park.
he's played so many games at left back due to Higgy's injury and DC's complete wankness.
i think the capture of WP will also aid in the progression of Marc becoming a first choice midfielder, as their games will compliment each other greatly.
TP has gone on record stating he believes Marc will become one of the prems best central midfielders.

Swear he was a CB for pompey then went CM for us for a few games before going LB, just seems to be a versatile player who'll go anywhere for a game, sorta replacement for pugh in a way

Is this the same TP that thought diao is the best midfielder by a country mile?

On the whole I have been very impressed with him as a left back. From what I saw of him in CM he lacks a bit of awareness. May be proved wrong though.

He tends to take too long time on the ball - he normally gets away with it at left back (he has done well in that position), but in central midfield he is a risk.

I'm sure when they are playing at Stoke, this gets mentioned by the commentator.

He's never been a centre half but he did have to play their in an emergency role so to speak, when Pompey were strglling for defenders.
he was a central midfielder when at United in his younger days and played their for Pompey also. He has only been used here at left back since the injury to Higgy where I must admit he's done a competent job.
I think he has the qualities to play alongside Palacios in the middle of the park and become a good player. I have little evidence to back this up however.

Not this debate again. Of course he was bought as a midfielder but circumstances have prevailed and he's been shown to be flexible enough to play at full back. It will be interesting when Higgy's back, but don't forget, when Higgy was last at left back, Wilson was at right!

I'm not convinced that he will make a good central midfielder based on his first few games for us in that position. But, I have no problem with him being tried there again - but NOT UNLESS HIGGY IS FILLING THE LEFT BACK SLOT.

Higgy- LB
Wilson- RB
Thats what I would go with when Higgy is fully fit.

Wilson did play at centre half numeous times for pompey but played mainly in central midfield and looked very good in there. He has got the eye for a pass and will score a few goals in there as he likes to attack the edge of the box. I'm sure his time will come to play in the centre if Pulis wants to play with a creative midfielder even if it is in a european match.

Now that's he's fully integrated into the Stoke way (he's certainly not afraid of a tackle at full back) it would be interesting to see if he's now the centre midfield upgrade we bought him to be.
He's a very decent Premier League RB though, not so strong and a bit wasted on the left.

For crying out loud!!!
Wilson must never, ever, ever play in midfield again.
We have been there and seen that he is woefully out of his depth.
