Did we hear the loudest ever singing for a Stoke player last night?

Even his warm up at halftime was bionic
plainly, he knew he was coming on, Cameron Jerome can improve too - that is plain, there is much raw talent there also but, the way Jon Walters has now come on to be the talent and force he is now is frankly, amazing.
last night he was a threat to the opposition every single time he touched the ball
a true 'cult hero' and legend* (even) in the making methinks
(* a term I very rarely bestow)

I'm astounded at the progress Walters has made. He's now our best player...not just our most hard-working, or most-improved, our BEST player.
It just goes to show, if you put the effort and commitment in, anything's possible.
From Wanky Walters to Suuuuuuuppper Jon in 18 months. What a legend.

I was thinking the same last night, he is certainly our best striker and arguably our best player. Which is incredible.
His work rate, first touch, vision, finishing is of a very high standard. What's he lacking, that 'yard of pace' perhaps?
I've no idea what his market value would be at the moment. Not that we'll find out, Stoke and Walters are made for each other.

Dont know if anyone can remember Roy Keane sniggering when we bought him and saying something along the lines of Tony Pulis has obviously seen something to pay that kind of money and good luck to him, Well Roy me boy thats why you'll never ever be a top manager.

Funnily enough though about 6 months before that Keane was singing the praises of Jon louder than anyone.

I remember after he signed someone on here describing him as another Cresswell (which is frankly a slight against RC as well, who was a good servant for this club) - i.e. All energy and no talent.
Clearly whilst Jon does have energy in abundance, and works his socks off, he does so combining it with real footballing intelligence. He makes things happen high up the pitch, either by pressuring players into mistakes, smart runs creating space for others, creating chances from nothing or little bits of skill.
Lovely player, who you could probably describe as a Cresswell/Fuller* hybrid.
* obviously not the same level of genius as the great man, but then, who has?!

I'd make a great manager.Hes a player whos name kept cropping up a couple of seasons before we e entually signed him,I knew from what was being said by the Tractorboys that he would be a great signing for us.

His energy levels are amazing, and he genuinely seems to enjoy playing, Tevez could learn a lesson or 2 from him!

After reading that palacios thread and now this one it makes me wonder if in 5 months time we will have the thread super palacios because it used to piss me off when walters first signed the amount of slagging off he got so use walters as a great example and let new players have time to gel. Thats my rant over with what a lovely day.

He's just not a whippet. If he was able to sprint away from defenders (and very few strikers can) he'd be one of the best in the Premier League - because he has everything else. The addition of a Quaresma trick or two might help too.

Its his runs accross the defensive line that i love, he causes bloody chaos for the other team!!!
This is why he is always so involved.
The guys workrate is unreal.
A legend already in my opinion due to where he started and where he is now.

He can look a little slow and awkward at times steadying himself for the shot but when he's at full tilt he's a defender's nightmare.
He's like a stocky version of Kevin Phillips who's growing in confidence as we reach these new heights.
I still think there's a bit more to come...

He's got very bright scary eyes, noticed it after he got the corner against Man Ure from which we scored from, and again last night.
less than 3 million quid? Absolute bargain.

I said as soon as he came on yesterday that he'd trouble their defence. He's just an awkward bastard to try and mark. He was on the right wing, left wing, making runs behind Crouch, making flicks on TO Crouch. He was just everywhere.
I would quite happily have his babies.

He turned the game last night when he came on. Really is a quality player and a bargain signing for us. Was trememdous I though last Saturday and tonight again he looked to have the better of the Besiktas defence from the first time he received the ball.
Some of these who slagged him off when we signed him (and still pretend to know the game) I doubt had a clue who he was at the time but came out with the usual negative nonsense .

I can honestly say that in 50 odd years of watching Stoke ,I have never seen a player who has improved so much in so short a time. He is now arguably our best player.

I'm glad everyone is finally catching up with me on this one. His home debut against Spurs on the right showed he had the potential to fit the Pulis mould perfectly. Strength, stamina and a solid hold up/outlet player. He has since gone on to realise that potential and some. His first against Bolton in the semi was world class and with the effort he puts in he could become the whole package. What a bargain...

Absolutely Ruts, 'the relegation signing' has found a confidence I think Pulis has installed in him and has got better and better.
A good example for me was his miss v Spurs. It's got to the stage that when Walters gets the ball I immediately expect him to hit the target because his accuracy is that good of late in those situations of late. Was surprised by his miss which speaks volumes of how much he's come on.

My dad is flying out to visit me tomorrow. He's bringing me the new away shirt and asked me which player's name I wanted on the back. I could only think of one player. Walters. I love him.

Rustu Recber looked like he was happy to get out of the way- to be fair he looked like that most of the game

He knows how to play it perfectly, and is one of the few players with the three-lunged energy to do it. Something clicked for him in about January, and he's rarely been short of top class in pretty much every game since.

He looks proud to pull on the shirt and runs himself to a standstill every game. If only all professional footballers played with the same commitment. A credit to Stoke City and himself. One thing we are not short of at our club is outstanding role models (Delap, Shawcross and Walters stand out in that sense) and the main man responsible for all of that.....TP.
