So the ground rules are... Pundits/media who praise Stoke and rim the manager are great and really know their football. Pundits/media who knock Stoke and criticise the manager are c**ts and really know fuck all about football. That seems to be the rule. I personally still think he's a rat faced cunt!

Gary Neville is everything you wuld hope a pro would be. Gave everything, never needed an agent because he was intelligent enough to conduct his contract stuff himself, worked hard, never maoned, won everything there is to win in club football and every time he was fit, without exception, he played for his country, most often with distinction. He also loved his football club, a quality i thought we would appreciate more than most on here. Irrespective of whether he'd come on and said we were shite, he was still a great player, and his punditry, along with Lee Dixon & Robbie Savage makes a mockery of MoTD with it's gentleman's club atmosphere and smug, smart-arse remarks.

No one is questioning how good of a player he was. Or how good of a proffesional he was, and if he had played for Stoke i would probably worship him. But, he didn't and as it is i physically hate him! He's a cunt.

His analysis was all about how good we are at defending from the front in the opposition half of the field.
I'd be very interested to see Neville analyse the last 20 minutes against Liverpool when were not doing that all and had 10 players dropped back to the edge of our penalty area.
It was suicidal and the fact we got away with it doesn't make it right.

That supposes that we are THAT good that we can defend from the front for the entire game against a team that are clearly going to put us under severe pressure at some point. Liverpool played well for the last third of the game and put us under a great deal of presure (hardly surprising). We defended in depth due to desperation to hang on rather than any set decision to do so. For the most part, our tactics and, in particular, our defendng was superb against Liverpool and the first to say so was Liverpool's manager.

It was suicidal and the fact we got away with it doesn't make it right. It's something we've "got away with" a hell of a lot over the years though isn't it? I'd say we really are experts in the field of defending the edge of our area. Some Stoke fans can't handle the pressure and we do occasionally get caught out, but I'd say it's the main reason our defensive record is so good. I didn't see or hear Neville's analysis, but from the descriptions given it sounds utterly wrong to me. Barcelona chase and close down in the opposition half, pressing in numbers. Players charging all over the place. We often sit off and defend the space in behind us. Keeping a very rigid team shape. Teams can't thread the ball through and we double up on their wide men so they can't get the crosses in. We do occasionally do that higher pressing game, but I wouldn't say it's the norm. We tend to do it in spells of a game, rather than a whole 90 minutes. They are completely different ways of defending.

You can see why Pulis was so keen on getting Palacios in. When fully fit and versed in our ways, he should push our high speed closing down style to another level.

I would imagine that Pulis adores Gary Neville. If he hears about this I bet he's walking on air.

Speaking of our new number one fan; I just asked Rio Ferdinand a question about Gary Neville via twitter and amazingly he answered... twitter.com/#!/rioferdy5/status/113610507382038529

Stoke defend like Brazil traditionally defend. Allow the opposition to have the ball in neutral areas and drop off. By definition the opposition is going to be outnumbered and in Brazil's case trust the techincal superiority that you'll get the ball back quickly and keep and use it when you do. We don't do the last buit too well yet. There is a very simple principle that applies..... if you can't outplay them you must outnumber them.
