Unlike the previous pundits Neville says it how he sees it, and doesn't necessarily conform to the usual media stereotype about clubs or players.
I still can't get used to this almost total media praise (Durham and Quinn excluded obviously) about our great club. Although it did really get to some of us, I think most of us preferred it when the vast majority of the media didn't have a good word to say for us.
It'll take some getting used to although I think they'll be on us like a ton of bricks if/when we mess up. They can't even slag us off for a poor disciplinary record anymore.
Great times to be a Stokie after all the dark years that we've endured.

Despite Neville playing for Man Utd there is a lot to admire about the guy and if he'd played for us he'd go down as a legend. Model pro, big union man, works his socks off with minimum ability (like his brother). He's an honest guy who's not southern biased and gives credit whoever the team is and doesn't go with the flow. He's a refreshing change to Andy Gray. Him, Savage and Kamara are the best pundits on TV at the moment. And - relevant to the moment - he hates Scousers ;D

Top analysis based on evidence. Stoke do work incredibly hard and often get a result because they want it that little bit more. Watching that I was filled with pride. Rather than say shit passing on the day, better to say world class defending.

Hated him as a footballer but seems like a genuine bloke and a very good pundit.

I just counted 13 "you knows" after the manager interviews alone! He did mix it up with a few "I mean" and a couple of "like you says" but the guy is very limited, He licks his lips like a lizard between every "you know" & "I mean" He is fucking Shite, I really don't know what you all see in him.

That was a very good video. He certainly seems to more or less know what he's on about, which is actually quite surprising considering that Stoke is the side being discussed. I suppose that, for all of the anger about us playing 'anti-football' and whatnot, our style has also made us more noticeable, so that even if we have got bad publicity, we at least don't appear as just another generic weaker side not really worthy of note, playing a generic version of the 4-4-2. This could have also contributed to the current praise, since, well, everyone knows Stoke.

He talks some serious sense in that video, it's so refreshing not to hear the old fashioned football cliche's most pundits spout about us nowadays. (MOTD take note)

Pundits/media who praise Stoke and rim the manager are great and really know their football.
Pundits/media who knock Stoke and criticise the manager are c**ts and really know fuck all about football.

All good but if we play shit on Thursday or Sunday and G. Neville criticises us he'll get get called a fucking cunt. Even if the criticism is perfectly rational.
Why is anyone surprised that Gary Neville talks sense? He always talked sense as a player. Problem is he got called a twat because he was a rarity...a footballer with a brain who can talk properly.

There was a moment a couple of years ago at an away game when the whole 'shape' thing made sense to me, and I marvelled as if I'd seen Barca ping 47 passes together before a Messi overhead kick.
It's really something to get that level of discipline - especially when you see flair players like Ethers and Pennant tracking back, snapping at their oppo's heels.
What you do with the ball is important, what you do when you lose it doubly so - and good teams like Barca, and unfortunately for us last May, Citeh, do it too.

The principles which underpin our recent success are the reasons why Matt Le Tissier was rightly never going to get a load of England caps.
The flairy players backtracking isn't just about making crashing tackles. It's about being aware of the game when you don't have the ball at your feet. Being prepared to get behind the ball and fill spaces and be available if we get possession.
If just one player doesn't put in that level of workrate we'd be outnumbered and struggle badly.

As he was a Manchester United player then i naturally detest him, however i disliked him less than most Man United players. It's nice to see some appreciation from a man who has only recently left the game after years at the top level, of the way our lads set up and work immensely hard for one another.

...with a great understanding of how Pulis' teams are set up to defend from the front. If his TV opportunities dry up I'd get him in as a defensive coach. Like him or loathe him he is amongst the best defenders this country has ever seen. Still a cunt though...

He was hated because he played for Manure. Had he played for us, he would have been a legend, and deservedly so, and none of my comments are because he's said some decent stuff about us.
The bloke and his brother have always been superb pro's, even though Gary was a mouthy bastard. I agree with whoever said him and Beckham were outstanding in the England side as a right sided pairing.
Did anyone notice that he called Sir Alex, 'Alex' in the vid. His summary of the way we work when we're at our best is spot on. It really is a combination of Arrrrrd work, team spirit, a crowd who appreciate effort as much as talent, and a manager who has put it all together. It might not be very pretty at times, but as Liverpool found to their cost, it's damned effective. The one thing missing is that we need to reproduce the same thing away from home. But we're getting there slowly. The results against Manure and Chelski last season show how much we improved from the previous season. I'm looking forward to the Manure game now. That will give us an even better idea of how far we've progressed with these tactics.
OS.
