I can't wait to see kick off on thursday especially considering kiev are usually champions league opposition, this could be an unbelievable result if we were somehow able to start with a bang and get a win. But what team would you employ to get the win??
I don't know if I'd start Sorro, who does need game time, especially if we are to keep him, and he does have experience at Villa etc of Europa League away games, but Bego is the better keeper and had a blinder so far this season.
Shotton needs time on the pitch, but kiev are a bloody good team and I think I would rather have Wilko at right back. Wings speak for themselves but with new signings in centre mid and upfront can now provide much needed competition.
For me I'd go: Bego, Wilko, Ryan, Huth, Wilson, Pennant, Whelan, Whitehead, Matty, KJ, Jerome.
I'd have Shotton on the bench who could then come on if Pennant got tired, and Walters to replace Matty. If we were in a position to be able to.

I'd play three in midfield to be honest. Given that we have no natural left-sided player other than Ethers I'd play Matty and rest Pennant, perhaps swapping it later in the game. Safety first and two up front is fine as long as our midfield is solid. I expect Walters to start and Jerome to come on later.

Would you play shotton rb in such an important game? I hope the lad does well I really do, but I do believe that Pulis would rather play Huth there. I think that Shotton needs to start soon, for me it would be vs Spurs in Carling Cup. Although Upson is a good call, he has had a fantastic start to the season and looks to be a real steal.

Tommy Wilko Ryan Huth/Upson Wilson JP Whelan Deano Matty Jerome Kenwyne
Still a strong XI but with an eye on the Mackems game as well.
If Wilson needs a rest given his hamstring, I'd move Wilko to left back and put Shotton in at right back.
Then for the Sunderland game we could go:
Bego Huth Ryan Woody Wilson JP Palacios Whelan/Deano/Rory (take your pick) Matty Walters Crouch

As this is a game that we can afford to lose in the context of the 6 game league, I wouldn't take any chances on any of our key players and keep them fresh for more important matters nest Sunday.

I'm sure we'll see KJ and Jerome starting up front and I'd imagine Sorensen will come in too.
Whelan will come back in as well no doubt. Maybe a start for Palacios too.

I think he'll go
Begovic Huth Shawcross Upson Wilson
Pennant Whelan Palacios Etherington
Jerome Jones
Getting off to a good start is vital IMO. Dont want any pressure for the last couple of games. Walters needs a rest, so get Jerome chasing them down for an hour, Palacios and his experience in the big Europa games would be crucial for this one I think, so If I was TP i'd put him in with Whelan.
But i'm not the manager ;D - Whatever team he picks, i'll be happy with. Goooarn Stoke - See y'all out there on Thursday!!

Dunno, but f*ck it's going to be tough !
The old mid-week away trip to Kiev has always been a huge ask for seasoned euro-vets so if we pull of any kind of result on Thursday it will be a magnificent effort.

1-1 (Jerome & Shevchenko) This, in my opinion, is probably the hardest game we'll play in this group, so a point would be great result. Sorensen Wilkinson Upson Shawcross Wilson Walters Whelan Whitehead Etherington Jerome Jones Bench: Begovic, Huth, Shotton, Delap, Palacios, Pennant & Crouch (Would just like to say that the bench looks alot stronger than it did agaisnt Thun ;D *) * (Nash, Collins, Shotton, Woodgate, Soares, Tonge and Arismendi)

I'd rest both wingers - in the EL it is going to be our home games that TP will really target. I think in Kiev it is definately going to be a 'park the bus' job - but with options from the bench if we go behind.
Sorro Wilko, Shawcross, Upson, Huth Whelan, Palacios, Whitehead, Delap Jerome, Jones
Bench - Nash, Shotton, Wilson, Crouch, Walters, Pennant, Ethers
Is Diao fit - if so I'd start him instead of Whitehead and drop Ethers from the bench.
Go to Sunderland with Crouch, Walters, Pennant and Ethers relatively fresh. Palacios to get some much needed game time - although I'd put him on the Bench at SoL and he can start vs Man Utd.

Sorro Wilko Huth Shawcross Wilson Shotton Palacios Whelan Pennant Jones Jerome Don't like the wings but Ethers, Whitehead and Delap need the rest and we don't really have anyone else.

i would play walters on thurs.... they would struggle with his strength and pace. i would play jerome with him saving kj to play against his former club on sunday.
