How about a time limit on pointless possession? If a team has kept the ball for, say, 90 seconds without making any attempt to do anything offensively with it the ref gives an indirect free-kick against them. And there couldn't be an offside from that free-kick.

Defensive set up would be just the same as a freekick instead of a corner and is probably more difficult to defend.
A throw in midway into their half for example would probably be countered by a defensive line on the 18 yard box. The ball would be propelled over said defensive line and Huth would smash said ball into opposing net.
Job done. Back to the drawing board Arsene. I'll give you a start, sign some players with some back bone and suitability to the English league.

Everyone's tried it, Gamst Pedersen, Ivanovic, Sagna as you say, Gary Neville even used to be known for his long throw, Wenger's is once again pissy because he has been found out tactically - happening more and more these days. I think if we did compile the Association Football Rule Book according to Wenger as suggested, it would basically turn into 7 a side 3 touch no overhead height football. Basically basketball played with your feet. |

Surely the 'no offside from a throw-in' is more suited to 'total' football.
Ball goes out of play, quick throw down the line for on rushing attacker.
Seriously, if you could be offside from a throw in then surely every throw in the oppo half would end up going backwards - or as stated above, results in a massive chase for the ball as the defence stand in line with the thrower.
Wenger really has lost it!

Why can't any of these elite coaches coach their defences on how to defend a throw in, or has the capped one simply devised a tactic that even the proclaimed elite cannot defend?
Surely that makes Tone elite? I would love to see TP turn up at one of these elite forums and leture them all on how to deliver the long throw that not even the elite can defend!!!!! Oh the irony.
