whether its good or bad that we lost out to Barton, its another one thats slipped the net.
What worries me, according to some of the posts on here that Crouch, Palacios, Jerome & Bendtner, are carrying some form of injury.
From the encyclopedia that is the new signings thread then i cant see we have been linked to many other potential new signings.
Are we seriously looking at any of these players when they are carrying an injury, as non of these players are available for tuppence.
Try as i might to be positive about our transfer window activities i am now officially worried.
Imagine, god forbid if anyone takes a knock tonight, worse still if its anyone in midfield or even Jones or Walters.
The biggest positive is that Huth and Etherington have a rest before Sunday.
Are we planning a season of survival or really looking to push on.
Sorry to sound a bit dissmissive, Stoke have been a big part of my life for 30 years, and maybe now we are where we are i am expecting too much.

We didn't necessarily "lose-out" to QPR as regards Barton. If you believe the chatter amongst agents & hacks on Twitter, Stoke walked away from a potential deal two weeks ago. And if the stories of £60 - 80k per week are anything like true, I'm glad they did!
I share your concerns, but I'm not panicking just yet.

Try not to get too worried. I've given up worrying for now, it doesn't matter how much we sit here shitting ourselves it doesn't make a difference to what will eventually happen and who we'll eventually sign.
I will, however, begin worrying again if we haven't signed someone good by 11.45pm on Wednesday. ;D

Lets hope come next Wednesday we have who Tone considers to be the best the club can get.
All i hope is that they are players that can hit the ground running, not who have a couple of weeks rehab before they are match fit, having a treatment room full of new signings is something we can ill afford

I think we are at a major crossroads in our journey right now. With the steady but definite improvements all thru the squad over the last 2 years we have reached a point where the reported £40-£45K pay ceiling is no longer enough to improve the team. So its either break the structure, and have a number of current players wanting improved deals to match OR bring in players that dont fit Tone's "Stoke DNA", ie foreign players, lower division or unproven Prem youngsters. I have always been of the opinion "In TP we trust" cos he always gets his man but this crossroads is a genuine worry for us all.

Pulis will have many targets, and i don't think Barton was one of them ( didn't he say this? ) Pulis seems quite positive about bringing in players, so although it will be last minute, i know we will get them in. He has also said, a few that were in for we haven't been linked with yet, ill get nervous if were in the same situation next Wednesday. We are Stoke, this is just how it is

Yeah, I can't see Pulis going for Barton - especially after all the things TP said about him. He'll get it sorted. We'll be sat here in a week wondering how the fuck he managed to sign 5 players in 40 minutes

The first accurate post on this board in about two months. ;D but what of our children, and our chilrens children, and our childrens childrens children ;D They'll just smile, perplexed, at the notion of a society in which their ancestors thought it worthwhile to pay a scouse hooligan 60,000 quid to kick a bag of air around a field twice a week.

losing Barton is really no great shakes to me, but i am concerned about the other targets, i know Tone prefers to keep these things close to his chests, but even the rumour mill in the papers seems to have dried up recently

I still think we can improve the squad/team within the wage structure. The manager just needs to target good realistic players. Last year could have been one of the finest in our history. The FA Cup and 8th spot in The Prem was within our grasp. We just ran out of steam because we hadn't got the squad to cope with it. Now add 4/5 players of similar or slightly better quality players to our very good first 11 and bingo we ARE at the next level. We just did not have adequete replacements at the end of last season leading us to play Huthy and Ethers in our biggest game for thirty years when they were no where near fit. The situation has got much worse since then and that has got to be laid firmly at the managers door.

If we cannot get our "A list" signings like Palacios et al. We have to get some depth to the squad. Hungry championship players (ones that are willing to fight for their place and not lie down and die in the reserves like Tonge and Soares), or the Ridgewells and dare I say it McFaddens that are left. We desperately need players that can improve the match day 18.
