we entertained the idea but we walked away from Barton, not the other way round.

Tony Scholes thought that Barton was demanding £80,000 a year

I remember Hull blowing us out the water over Bullard.
If only we'd raise that Cap we could be enjoying the high life like Hull

QPR - the new Hull City.
Look at the similarities:
Mental manager with a tendancy for the unexplained 'Characterfull' players who can easily go off the rails Spunking money like there is no tomorrow
It all adds up to relegation never to be seen in the prem again.

Tupper don't say much- but I agree with all he says. Joey won't be a free next year.

Has he even signed for them yet?
As for 80k per week, we could have done a deal on that if we had wanted to.
For example, KJ may be on 40-45k per week but after his signing on fee and the deal we did on the transfer fee, WE have actually paid him the equivalent of about 70k per week.
There are many ways to skin a cat and giving Barton the transfer fee we would otherwise have had to pay was clearly what we would have tried to do to secue his signature.

They can pay over the odds on his wages but lets face in one player doesnt make a squad stay up now does it.As much a s i would like barton here only for his football abilitys (hes a cunt and attitudes wank) but i think wages should be kept part of this structure we have.80k a week would upset the likes of pennant ethers and jones straight off and thats something we dont want.

Shhhhh......you're talking too much sense mate.....not allowed on this forum. Too many are stuck on the mythical "40K a week" ......... when anyone knows there are many ways around this that allow the club to proudly pronounce how they run a tight ship and at the same time allow the player to bank much more from the deal in total that equate to way more. KJ's wages and the "fact" that Sunderland are paying a proportion of his wages now.....all it means is we gave them the cash to do that as part of the purchase.........it allows Stoke to save face and say he is earning less and allows Sunderland to save face by saying they sold him for more.........the truth is not in the pay-packet, its in the rest of the deal.

We could have signed him, kept him within our pay structure and given up the rest in signing on even if it was 5m. Where are we going to find some one of his quality for 5m plus wages in this market. If we want to compete year on year we have to spend like the rest of them that's the reality or we can keep buying squad fillers on the cheap from the Championship.

Not signed yet has he?...
This could be like a typical Stoke deal.
We all think it's imminent and then it goes pear shaped.
Still wouldn't be surprised if he signs for someone else.

Just a reality check. Our turnover is around £60m a year. However we structure it, £4m a year on Barton is nearly 7% of our income. I would say it would only work for us if Coates paid half Barton's salary for the length of his contract. I for one don't blame him if he doesn't fancy doing that. We cannot afford to pay £80k a week unless Bet 365 subsidise us

That journo on Twitter has said Stoke were initially interested, and met with him or his agent, but after speaking to someone, I assume Pardew, TP backed out.

Warnock is on SSN and says the rumours of Bartons wages are bullshit. Yep, he was. Which is precisely why you should take everything you see in the press with a huge pinch of salt. They make it up as the go along people. You should realise that by now!

Agree, Davejohnno. Regardless of what anyone thinks about Barton, the deal could indeed have been done, without upsetting anyone.
Isn't that the purpose of a 'free'? A club rewards a player for long service or because it wishes to get rid, so that another club will pay his high wages or get around it by the methods mentioned above, and the buying club still have a good deal financially because of it.

Yeah but the extra 30k-40k over 3 years would only work out at an extra £5 mil, and with a player with no transfer fee doesnt seem so bad. Not saying we should, but if the club wanted to a deal, I'm sure they could.

You've got to wonder if we spend so much time trying to be clever-clever getting round our 'wage cap' that we get everyone (most especially ourselves) totally confused and with so many ifs and buts that the detail just drowns everyone.
