Tone tends to be a bit fast and loose with some of his stats but if true then 14,000 non-season ticket holders in the ground for Split is indeed impressive.
BTW how many season ticket holders do we have ? More or less than last season ?

But not at Premier League prices Worrying too that the season ticket holders felt unable to go - why? I suppose it did fall during the holiday period though, Paul. There were plenty of juniors present though (including my own lad) which bodes well for the future.

big games we could easily sell 30k plus, other games ticket prices would need to be considered to fill any new seats, less big draw games like Fulham, Wigan etc could be used for enticing new fans, younger fans, school kids which is for the good of the club in the long run with revenue coming from other sources, shirts, programmes, food etc and also potential future ST sales

But not at Premier League prices Worrying too that the season ticket holders felt unable to go - why? A few factors : School holidays. There hadn't been a game for sometime. Reduced prices. First game in Europe for 37 years.

[Worrying too that the season ticket holders felt unable to go - why? Good question, my guess is that many season ticket holders will feel they have made their investment in football for the season when they buy the ticket whereas the pay-as-you-go brigade like myself are more impulsive.

I was one of those season ticket holders who was away unfortunately, still managed watch the game on my laptop in the hotel though.

Sometimes tickets sold to season ticket holders for cup games can be a bit misleading - depends how they gather the info though.
Surely the 12,000 is the amount of season ticket holders who bought their normal seats.
Lots may use "other" matches to sample another area of the ground.
I know that in our team of 5 who normally go 2 sat in their normal seats, 1 did not go because of holiday and 2 took the opportunity to sample another part of the ground so according to the club's figures those 2 season ticket holders did not take up their seats.

Possibly so although I'm guessing when you buy it still goes on your purchase history? Like most stats I suppose it depends how they have been interpreted.

They could put season tickets up a few quid to cover any euro or cup games! That would pay for it too.

We have sold about 22,000 season tickets this year. Its about 700 more than last year mainly due to the Cup Final incentive.
and Tony Pulis is right, we should fill in at least one corner. The Family section of the Seddon is always full for every game, its almost impossible to get two seats together over there.
If the club are so worried about not getting enough bums on seats they should just make it an extension of the family stand, there is more than enough demand and it maintains our focus on getting younger fans into the Brit.

They could put season tickets up a few quid to cover any euro or cup games! That would pay for it too. It is one thing for a club which reaches Europe every year and gets through several rounds every year, to factor Euro games into their season ticket price. But for a club like Stoke it would be almost impossible to work out how much to add onto the season ticket price for Euro games. If, for example, we were to reach the Europa League final we would have played 18 games (9 at home) to do so. If we reach the group stages we would be guaranteed 10 games (5 at home) including the two rounds before the group stage - but for all the club knew we might have gone out against Split having only played 2 games - one of them at home. No way could we factor a European run into our ST prices. I reckon if we reach the group stage of the Europa the club will offer a three game mini season ticket for, maybe, £45.

imho there are thousands & thousand out there who would fill those extra seast - at the right price.
I buy a season ticket as do 20000+ others however it's essentially an outrageous drain on the family budget
pricing is crucial

I think having the corners filled in would be great. Due to my location, I obviously don't have a season ticket and trying to get tickets for a game is terrible if you don't have a season ticket - it's almost impossible to get 2 or more seats together. The only games that are relatively easy to get seats together are mid-weeks (which I can't do) and if we play smaller teams in the Cups.
I know people will bang on about the fact that we wouldn't fill the extra seats, but I think they'd be surprised. I know a lot of people that haven't got season tickets because of location, work, etc. and very few actually would bother to travel to the games, because they have to sit separately from their mates.
Filling in the corners will happen and it needs to in order for our club to grow.

the perception (& often the reality) of not getting 2 seats together for the fan who wants/needs to pick their games is also a big factor

I'm a season ticket holder but I'd bring a guest or two along to a few games a year if I didn't know that most of the decent seats are sold out and that two or three people wanting seats together would get poor seats for most games if indeed they could get seats together at all. What I would like would be to buy two or three decent seats for me and my guests well in advance - possibly months in advance. That is only really possible in a larger stadium where ST seats make up a lower percentage than they do at present.

I have advocated many times putting the dressing rooms in the corner by the Boothen and then extending the Boothen backwards with more seats and a bigger concourse.
I think this is the way to go.
