.. always loved this tune and thought the "na na na na" bit would make a good chant, I remember Brentford singing it one year and was thinking the other day it would fit well for any player with a two syllable surname (e.g Na na na na na na na, Pennant).
Or is it a shit idea?

I've never fucking understood the song as it goes. Apparently it was written by Paul McCartney for Julian Lennon. So why the fuck wasn't it called 'Hey Jule'?

Think it would be a great song to sing at football full stop, without ruining it by putting a players name on the end, 28,000 Naaaa , na na, NANANAAAAAAAAAA would sound emmence. But I think I might be in the minority on this one.

I don't think it will ever beat the version at Cardiff though. I'd forgotten about that TBH. ;D Ah well, we might see it at Swansea. Too long? It's like 7 "Na's" and then w/e else stuck on the end.

We used to sing this for Harry Burrows back in the late sixties when Hey Jude first charted! Naaa na na nah nah nah naaa, nah nah nah naaaa hey hey hey Harry Burrows ! Neil I think that was based on Na Na Kiss Him Goodbye, Neil. A terrific chant which was adopted across the country. In Liverpool's case, for example, it was Alun Evans (the first £100,000 teenager?). And as you rightly point out, for the great Harry Burrows in our case. But you are right that the McCartney Hey Jude chant dates back to the late 60s, when it was released by the Beatles. As someone notes above, "City" was (I think) appended as the tag line. It could work with "Wilko" or perhaps "Rory", but only if it were true to the original, which has a climax lasting two or three minutes - and sometimes more when McCartney is in self indulgent mode, with his music pals on stage at big outdoor events. A third "na-na" option is based on the ending and fade to T Rex's peerless "Hot Love", which dates back to 1972, and went along the following imaginative lines: Na na na, SCFC (clap clap). If it's on FaceTube, I have a feeling that is the backing "track" from the Man Utd fans to one of George Best's greatest TV goals, against Sheff Utd in that year - where he beats there or four defenders before clipping it across the keeper into the net. Used to be the signature piece of film on MoTD I think.

I don't think it will ever beat the version at Cardiff though. We should get this one going against Swansea at Home. For at least 10 mins at a slow speed so its clear as a bell. ;D
