Anyone else get a little uneasy feeling at the prospect of £60k a week? That said, we are a well run club and I can't see us bankrupting ourselves for anyone. Barton would be a great addition, for me a player who had it not been for past troubles would've made plenty of England appearances.

Given absolute dogs abuse when he played here for Castle. Are we about to see another about turn Upson style? For myself though I think Joey would be a good signing!

would be a jizzworthy signing....

i would offer him no more than 50 a week, 60k a week would be too much and a bad move for any other transfer targets, as they would all want the same as him, knowing we have that money to spend
has already happened with carlton cole, but we told him where go

I'd have him like a shot, tenacious, good passer and winds the other team up a treat! As for the wages, perhaps they need to up the highest rate a bit to get the quality players he says he wants? I know it's a dodgy path to tread but maybe if they introduced a wage reduction policy if we got relegated? Just a thought.

If it were to happen as he's on a free we'd offer him a couple of mill and then put him on our wage structure - net he'd be on the same money but he'd be inside wage structure.

The move does add up, four years at £60k pw = just under £12.5m. If we paid market rate (say £10m for argument) then we'd get less than a year out of him for that price. God what is the transfer window doing to me?!
Homzy - how likely do you think this is?

The thought of Barton coming to Stoke absolutely sickens me. He would destroy team spirit overnight and cause mayhem. He would go down like a lead balloon with many of our seasoned more educated players.
Madness.

This is complete bull sh*t. Why would stoke pay 60k a week. We miss out on many players because of our wage structure. The max we pay is around 45-50k. Like Dave said the wage structure is set to make this club stable, so why would barton be an exception.

Thefoe - see above financial analysis (albeit very basic). The removal of the transfer fee makes it very viable.

It would be inside our pay structure. Remember KJ is inside our pay structure because Blunderland are paying him an extra £20k per week for the length of his contract.
The fact that the blunderers and the rest negotiate like a librarian on cannabis doen't mean we have to go soft as well.

The boy would get stuck in and he has real quality. Maybe Tony could tame him?

Financially it's very viable. Getting Barton's signature gives us an instant saleable asset if things went a bit tits up, wouldn't be difficult to get him off the payroll if we needed to. I'd still be very surprised if signing for little Stoke would appeal to his ego, but if no one else is willing to sign him then we are an option to get him away from Ashley.
