apparently.. Stoke are poised to resurrect their interest in West Ham star Carlton Cole. It looked as though the £6million move for the England striker had fallen through last week, with the Potters unwilling to meet the former Chelsea forward's wage demands. Cole is thought to be on around £40,000 at Upton Park, and is also rumoured to be on a hefty goal bonus, and is unwilling to take a signifcant pay cut. But Britannia Stadium boss Tony Pulis, who has said he wants to sign five new players before the start of the season, is considering a second approach to the 27-year-old as he looks to bolster his striking options. www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/9270/7/stoke-ready-move-back-west-ham-star-cole

how weak would that look if we went back and caved in to the mercenary. He could hardly turn his back on West Ham and come to Stoke at this point can he

Initially I was underwhelmed with our interest in this waste of space. Now I'm a little pissed off/disappointed. There are plenty of better strikers out there that are cheap/as cheap, minus the over-inflated, completely unfounded egos.
Move on and move up. If he wants Championship football, fuck him. He's not good enough for us!

All that's gone on with him i think I'd rather see shotton playing up front again But in all seriousness, i think it would be a big mistake going back and caving in, he isn't even that good so it ain't worth the trouble

I don't want Cole here. Not because of some sort of principled moral stand – morals hardly exist in modern football. More because he's an overrated lump who couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.

He'd be ideal for us but surely to come he wants more money than weve offered, so he can do one, in my opinion

If TP wants him then thats good enough for me I'm sorry, but I can't agree we don't want to go back 'cap in hand' to a numpty like him, seemingly begging him to join us. He wasn't keen before; he hasn't got what it takes - let him rot down in the chumpionship

Transfer window closes over a month from now. Therefore all parties, both clubs the player & his agent/s have that long to 'play the game'.
It's all about money of course. West Ham want to sell him as they pay him to much. they will want the fee & dont want to pay his 'loyalty' bonus (as he hasnt asked for a transfer). Stoke want to buy him but dont want to pay his silly wages or pay his bonus for West Ham. The player wants his money.
Won't be surprised if we sign him. I would be surprised if it's done quickly.
This is how it works this is why the window should shut BEFORE the season starts not AFTER.

He obviously doesn't want to sign for us so he can fuck off, if he's not willing to join for the money he was offered before that just shows he is coming just for money and not to be a Stoke city player.
Let him rot in the championship.

Telling the world we're desperate for loads more players just weeks after telling everybody we can't be fucked with scouting abroad seems like some bizarre Brewsters' Millions style policy of trying to drive up the transfer fees we'll have to pay as high as they'll possibly go.

Dont want him anyway did you see him at the weekend he had two great chances and fucked them both. One he scuffed straight into the keepers arms and the other he blazed over the bar instead of atleast putting it on target.Get a 8 million puond bid in for rodders and have job done.

if it's about his loyalty bonus (as suggested) then it's West Ham (Karen Brady) who are fucking the deal up not Cole
still who knows what the truth is?
theres no point getting het up about it as surely all parties play this game over every deal
the days of quick deals (@ any club) are long gone - having said that there is always a rash of last min deals where the player dint know of a clubs interest until that day!

I like Owen Coyles take on this sorta thing..(re: the Jeffren deal)
"I don't wait and see with anyone," Coyle told The Bolton News. "Either you want to play for this football club, or you don't.

I'd be very suprised if this transfer comes to pass. He's proved he'd rather sit in the Chumpionship and just collect a wage than fight for his place and play top flight football. I think he has got the ability and an eye for goal just he was playing in a destinctly average team with poor tactics and even worse management.
On the other hand......................

Are Collins, Whitehead, Tonge, Pugh and Soares good enough for you as well then? Whitehead is - the rest are shit - Why ? I was just trying to illustrate that TP's not the best judge of players sometimes. He's had his hits but also his fair share of misses too. Just because a player is good enough for Tone doesn't necessarily mean they're good enough for the club.

I'm about the only one who thinks we NEED to sign him? There's no fucker else to get, we know he can do it in the premiership - he's scored 33 goals in three seasons and hit double figures in the couple of years before last year when he was pretty awful in a pretty awful team, granted. With out current options, we can't be too picky. For 6 million it's a good deal, the only problem is wages but he's worth paying 40k a week with a decent signing on fee though in my opinion. It's alright people saying 'we don't want him, he can fuck off', who else shall we get? Would you rather us pay 12 million for an unproven french bloke who's torn up his home league? Don't even bother saying you want a 'young, nippy striker' like Agbonlahor,Sturridge or Defoe, we've got no chance with any of them. There's only Roddallega who's realistic, but even he is being courted by massive clubs according to reports. Cole and Jerome are really 'boring' signings for many, but they'd be very solid buys for us in my opinion. I think we'll have both by the end of the window I'd prefer if we had Rodallega in place of one of them though!

I'm with you PixiePotter, I've been fighting his corner for the last 3 seasons now ;D
TP was willing to go as high as £10million for Cole last year, (until Jones became available for a better price.) So for £6million, you can bet your bottom dollar TP will try his best to convince Cole to sign up! I can see it being the end of August, when Cole becomes a bit more realistic/desperate for a move back to the Premier League.

Once he signs he should be made to have a fist fight with Robert Huth so he understands his place. He'll be alright then.
