...and moaning about the price.
If we want expensive, proven players, then the Premiership is the place to go.
If we want cheaper to buy, players who will want £25k/week, then we have to take a chance and look to the Continent. It's a chance, but like signing Woodgate, Fuller, Cresswell, et al, we are not adverse to taking chances are we?

Absolutely. I was about to post the same thing, but you've summed it up so succinctly that it's saved me the trouble.

Is Waitrose the new Crufts?
Aldi = dog's home

You moan it's expensive but you always go in and have a good old browse, pick up the expensive bottle of red, toy with the idea of buying it, tease yourself to death with it before you put it down, walk away and call in at Aldi on the way home. EDIT: I hope your not comparing Carlton Cole to shopping at Watirose? I'd have him down as that dodgy bottle of Kumala from the shelves of Bargain Booze.

Yes, but buying Cole is like spending more than you should and finding out you also have a fukin £100 parking fine as well. You are definitely not getting value for money!

I shop at Waitrose every week and while it is easy to spend a load of money on un-necessary luxuries, there are still good quality bargains to be had! I am going to put my trust in Tone which ever shop he goes to!

I think it's time we made a decision; either we change the wage structure, to enable us to get better players, or we say "40 grand is our limit" and stop looking at players we think may demand more. If Carlton Cole is quibbling about wages, we can rule out Defoe or N'Zogbia, too. Is this moving on? Surely we should be willing to pay the going rate, even if the going rate is silly money? Yes, I know it's not my money to spend, but why not just say. This is our policy; No class players, just good squad players. It would stop the hope building/destroying charade.

It's a bit like shopping at Mark's for food, you don't do a big shop just a few treats!

Carlton Cole would have been with in the wage structure with what he was asking but the management team didn't think he was worth it witch is fair enough as he was coming as back up, you need to realise that just because a player is asking for x and Stoke can afford it, it doesn't mean they should pay it if they feel its more than the player is worth. Its 100% the right way to do things.

Trouble is we want Lionel Messi for 30 quid a week, aint gonna happen, so perhaps we should stop the teasing eh Tone!

Really, I haven't seen that any where I thought Stoke were after C. Cole for what he's worth and not some stupid number he and his agent plucked out of thin air. +1 Ok lads, point taken. Perhaps I was a bit ott. Tbh was more of a rant about restrictions of a rigid adherence to wage structure than making a case for Cole. This is not a call for a spending spree, more a little common sense flexibility.

Our wage structure is a double edged sword imo, i admire the club for having a wage ceiling but we will never attract the better players to take us to the next level all the time we have one and it will eventually lead to our demise as a premier league club.

Sadly, Im forced to agree we can't maintain this stance of capping salaries when all around us are blowing the ceiling off it, more recently Liverpool
