Hello guys its nice to finally be on here. I'm not really sure how it works but I've managed to start a post about the season's expectations. Whats your general thoughts? I'd be disappointed with a bottom half finish I'd say qualifying for the Europa League again and getting deep in to the competition. I know a few Stokies at work who think its really time for us to deliver. We're not the new boys in the Premier League anymore, we're not just fighting relegation. Maybe we need to expand our football a bit and go a bit more attacking. We've got the players, Etherington, when he's not in the casino, is the best left winger in the country and Kenwynne Jones my son calls, The Drogba of The North. So, I'm going to stick my neck out and say 6th and Semi Finals of the Europa League. Anyway, see you all at the Brit

I'll be happy if I never once consider relegation an issue this coming season. Anything else will be a bonus.

If we don't get a few new signings, then I think we will finish in the bottom half.

No chance of 6th, The only teams that finish in the top 6 these days are the ones that have had massive investment either recently or over many years. Man U Spurs Man C Chelsea Liverpool Arsenal
Only if 1 of them have a terrible season does anyone have a chance of getting 6th.
Currently with the squad we have I'd say 14th and another good cup run. Since being in the PL we've been extremely lucky with injuries until the end of last season and you saw how we struggled without Huth/Ethers/Higgy 1 or 2 injures and our season could be fucked.

Maybe then its about time Coates dug a bit deeper in his pockets? To be fair, he's probably making a lot of money as he's not spent anything near the amount we've pocketed through the Premier League.
Do you think Coates is showing a bit of a lack of ambition?

I'd like to have a decent run in both cups, and to be well clear of relegation by March/early April. That's all I want.

And I think Coates is doing just fine with the amount he's spending - ignore fees for players, think about how quickly wages add up. A wage of 40,000k a week = 2 million a year - that's where a substantial amount of money goes.

Jesus wept. The curse of modern day football is clubs/managers continue to push the agenda of lowering fans expectations while continuing to fleece them of their money. The really sad fact is that some supporters lap it up. I EXPECT a mid table finish MINIMUM, a decent cup run (in either competition) with a decent showing in the Europa League as a bonus. At no point do I EXPECT Stoke to be involved in relegation. I don't think that is asking too much.

Pugsley: All of that would be fair comment mate were it not for the fact that several other clubs will spend at least as much as us, have a bigger fan base and have every expectation of finishing above us. I would expect us to be better than at least 4 or 5 clubs next season but it would be folly to take for granted any more than that. They all EXPECT to be progressing too so it will always be competative. We are just one of a dozen clubs that could finish anywhere from 8th to the relegation slots.

Agree totally, I just EXPECT us to do what I said. What you are saying is that it's OK for other clubs to have expectations but plucky Stoke and their fans should be happy with any old shit, despite having spent the best part of £100million on the squad by the end of this transfer window during our spell in the Prem.

I think if we do progress far in the Europle league then we could struggle in the Prem. but there are atleast 3 worse teams in the division.
will struggle in the first few games because of our opponents but we should pick up a good second half/ run-in at the end

Why is it Pugsley that you verge on the manic depressive regarding most things Stoke - especially their manager - and yet you have your head in the clouds regarding expectation levels ? Perchance to give you something to complain about when it doesnt happen ??

Why is it Wuzza that you are on the verge of being a stalker regarding most things Stoke - especially the Manager - yet you have lower than a snakes belly expectation levels? Perchance to give you something to cover your arse with when it does happen? Please expalin why it is OK for other clubs to have expectations BUT plucky Stoke and their fans should be grateful for any old shit? Why is a mid table finish way to much to EXPECT and decent cup run - afterall it's what we have done the last few seasons?

Stalker ?? Dont follow that at all - didnt think I posted much at all compared to most of the regulars.
I dont think other clubs with our Premier League experience have any higher expectations than us - do you think Wolves are expecting a top 10 finish for example ?
Enjoy this experience - the tv coverage, bidding for players like Carlton Cole etc etc. It was all a distant dream 4 years ago. You never know you might enjoy it !

I do think its natural that expectation levels grow otherwise the club becomes static. It does build the pressure on Pulis but thats business. Plain and simple if Stoke are struggling, his job will come under pressure. Thats life.
