Begovic Brown Huth Shawcross O'Shea Pennent Noble Barton Etherington Jones ???
if we got some luck in the transfer window where would this lineup put us in the league?
Cant seriously think of a striker to go with Jones that we have been linked with, Defoe would be amazing and one we should have a go at...

Just like Gudjohnsen: Premier league titles League cup Champions League 32 years old. Same old story different player, some people eh? Plus he's got a bean head!

Wes Brown - prone to mistakes when playing in a defence that isn't under as much pressure as ours. What possible incentive will he have to excel for us, no affinity for the club etc. Give me Wilko at right back any day of the week

He isn't good enough for England or Man Yoo - doesn't mean he isn't good enough for us. Injuries and age could be concerns though.

Find it genuinely surprising that so many seem to think Joey Barton is a realistic target for Stoke. He will either get a move to a top club this window or he will wait out his contract. The club would love to sell him for a big fee this summer but ultimately Joey Barton will do what is right for Joey Barton.

Probably right, captain although I can only see Arsenal being in for him out of the top four which would then bring the likes of us into the equation. I think there's a lot of clubs that would rule themselves out for one reason or another so it would be interesting to see where he would end up if Wenger doesn't want him. I don't think he'll come by the way but it's not a ridiculous suggestion either.

It won't bring Stoke into the equation though as if he can't get a move to a club in relation to his ego, he will just sit tight at Newcastle. He can sit tight on his £60,000p/w deal at Newcastle for a year, and if the bigger clubs don't come in for him next year then he knows the likes of Stoke and plenty others at our kind of level will still be there. With the greatest of respect, Stoke, or Sunderland for that matter, are nowhere near tempting enough to persuade him to move this summer no matter what.

It's a no go anyway, before you even debate whether he is realistic or not. Anyone who watched the Newcastle away game on ESPN last season will tell you just how highly Tony Pulis rates Joey Barton. He spent the entire first half abusing the bloke to high heaven for his constant diving. I will not repeat the exact language he used because children might be reading. Let's just say it was far less than complimentary. We've got more chance of re-signing Denis Smith. We're better off concentrating on more realistic targets that the manager actually rates - like Asamoah Gyan.

I agree with plenty of that mate but I suspect there are more clubs than you'd think who wouldn't make a move for one reason or another. I can't see any of the following being in for him: both Manc clubs Chelsea Liverpool Everton (doubt they could afford him at present) Fulham Sunderland (due to the rivalry) The three promoted clubs Wigan Bolton Albion Wolves So that leaves Arsenal Spurs Villa Stoke Blackburn If Wenger doesn't fancy having a "ruffian" playing for him that would put us in the mix as I can't see Harry going for him either. It's fair to say if Villa wanted him he'd go there ahead of us but if they didn't I think we'd get the nod over Blackburn. So while it's all ifs buts and maybes should he be ready for the off as had been reported the list of suitors may not be as long as you'd think. Like I say, I still don't think we'll be signing him though! ;D

I would rather have Marc Richards at both full backs than O'Shea or Brown...
I like the idea of Noble and Barton though!

However if Barton is going to start considering offers from the more unfashionable clubs he can certainly wait for next summer to do it. He won't be considering those kind of options this summer.

He spent his post-match interview criticising Barton as well. He also had a few choice words for him in the home game, especially after his spat with Fuller. I'd be very surprised if TP was interested in bringing him here, I really would. I'd be even more surprised if we went for him and he agreed to join us.

Too right -Wes Brown at right back is terrifying He's almost certainly better than any option we currently have at right back. He's no better than Wilko, infact I'd pick Wilko over him if I didn't want to conceed. What has Brown done to make you say that, he's right down the pecking order.
