From another clubs point of view?
No wonder Keane said what he said last year after the Walters fiasco.
£8m down payment for Dann and Jerome yes it rises to £16m but on what terms?
Win the league Stoke have prob inserted in the payments, and getting in the top 6 within 3 years.
Now we have the Dann Jermome & Cole fiasco same as Walters last year.

Surely its in our interests to: -
A) Bargain for the best possible prices (espeically when we are in the stronger position - i.e. Brum have just been relegated) B) Structure of much of the payment as we can as that will mean if we end up paying the top price then it will be because the player has been successful

Obviously its in our best interests when we try broker a deal, but i would love see some of the installment plans they put to other clubs.

wasn't de laet's move to man utd all based around performance and that?

I'm quite pleased if we are annoying to deal with.
Better that than just paying whatever the other team asks for.
Obviously the key is not to take it too far so that good signings fall through ... but we've got lots of good players at good prices over the past few years.

I get the feeling that we are a fucking nightmare to deal with and probably check everything and check it all over again.
Obviously this is good as we dont want to end up like West Ham or Pompey, but sometimes I feel we can be a bit over cautious and all these add ons and installments must be a nightmare to calculate for other clubs hence why it takes us nearly a month to conclude just one deal whereas teams like Sunderland just blew £8m on a teenager and have now almost sewn up a deal for Gardner within 24 hours.
Like I said though before someone rips into me, this method clearly works as financially we are a very well run club.

I would think the sensible brum fans would rather stage payments. The financial situation they are in with there chair man atm might mean hes not going to be there much longer. If they come back up they will be happy of the extra couple of million this time next year when they have more money to spend back in the prem or to spend on players to make sure they come back at the second attempt.

I aint disputing its the wrong way to go, my point is how quick our bids get rejected and how every offer is based on installments and progress of the player & club.

They should have a car boot sale for the deadwood, literally set up a trestle table and sit Soares, Tonge and Collins on it. Possibly in a field just off the A50 near Knutsford...

There's a thin line between trying to get the best deal for the club and blatantly taking the piss and I think we are guilty of straying over that line from time to time - The Dann/Jerome bid being a case in point.

No wonder Keane said what he said last year after the Walters fiasco. What did he say? Now they've got Paul Jewell, the Wigan hero, I think that's better. He's rebuilding a team of them now. 8 new players coming in.

Rory why dont you offer to pay out your bank account then? Or is it only ok to do that when it's other people's money? This isnt championship manager on PS3 you know.we are one of those old fashioned clubs that use the money we have rather than depending on getting into debt to finance deals as a quick solution so these types of deals are essential.may not keep you happy in the short term but at least we'll have a club to follow in the long term.

Not sure we're blatantly taking the piss with Brum. They're a Championships club - what we offered is big money for that level.

Lets bend over and ask all the other club to shaft us up the arse so we are not annoying and everyone likes us. Seriously id rather have two hard nosed bastards running our ship in the shape of tony and peter fighting our corner and trying to get the best deals for Stoke City. I honestly couldnt give a fuck if brum think we are annoying, wenger gets annoyed with our tactics, discopants doesnt like our style of playetc etc etc. The only thing Stoke City should care about is Stoke City.

Bent went to Villa for £18M rising to £24M, wickham went for £8M rising to £13M. Every club puts these conditions in the deals they do and we are just making sure we get the best possible deal.
You also have to take into account the individual who was complaining about us. Roy Keane's signings at his clubs were, in general, shocking so I wouldn't lose too much sleep over his criticism.

From another clubs point of view? No wonder Keane said what he said last year after the Walters fiasco. So you'd rather we paid more money and have a happy Roy Keane? I bet everyone speaks in glowing terms about dealing with Liverpool, their stock couldn't be higher in the media and other clubs, because they pay 3x what a player is worth!

We have deep pockets and short arms, I can see it from our point of view though, we have an old school Chairman and manager who not just realise but know for a fact that players and wages are out of control, in a way I'm glad we won't pay it to both clubs and players alike, it takes the piss out of the average working man. The thing is though, we can't have our cake and eat it, we either get the free transfers of English players, putting their transfer fees towards their wages instead and look abroad for the odd foreigner on slightly less, or we stick with what we have and get a few loans in.
Why we don't loan from abroad as a like try before we buy is beyond me.

The only one whose conception of worth' is relevant is the buying club. Whatever anyone else thinks, although as valid an opinion as anyone else's, is pointless. Reading and Nacional may have thought we paid over the odds for Kitson and Arismendi but we didn't question Pulis' decision to get them.

There is a perception by some Stoke fans regarding our transfers that we take too long or try and get crazy add ons. But we as fans take a whole load more interest in our tansfers, there are multiple threads on this forum, Dave's View starting rumours in May, talking to people at work and in pubs, rumours in papers which usually mean jack. But we hang onto every word, rumour bullshit story. Whenever there is a signing for another club say Sunderland do you go on there forum and discuss it, talk to alll the mackems you know, read the North East echo? No, you see on Sky or in a paper or online that Sunderland have made a bid and it has been accepted or declined. That's it you, me, we invest too much energy and brain power on reading and posting on these threads that it is infuriating. I'm waiting for TP to return and for the pictures of the new player stood on the boothen with a scarf above his head. ....however I will still check this site for clues or links
