Hellu! Some days ago I read here that Stoke might get a tremendous loan signing from Man Utd - and it wasn't a striker. Who could it be? My guess is central defender Chris Smalling. The likelihood of that hasn't diminished now since Man Utd got central defender Phil Jones, Blackburn, into their squad as well.

I wouldn't be surprised insofar as that if TP really wanted him, Fergie would probably do his little lap-doggy a favour. But also, Fergie (if he wanted) could loan him to at least five other Prem sides who could guarantee him every game. Having said that, if Ryan or Bob are off, I wouldn't mind him over Dann, pricewise.
I think it will be Danny Welbeck.

There's absolutely no chance it'll be Chris Smalling in my opinion.
I reckon it's Tom Cleverely.

No chance it will be Smalling, best player by a mile for the under 21's and he'll be pushing for a regular spot at Man U this season.

Would be a good move if it was him! Was going to be the next big thing and started getting regular match time, then everybody forgot about him when Hernandez joined.

Probably Obertan, not had much of a look in there. Wouldn't surprise me if we signed him, I don't think they paid much for him £3m I think. Also he is 6ft 1"

I hope its not Obertan or Macheda. Obertan just doesn't look good enough. And Macheda hasn't impressed me at all. He's a lucky sod though. Except with Sampdoria where him scoring 0 in 14 helped them to get relegated.

I spoke with my die-hard Utd pal (he's from Swansea) about this today. I told him we're after an exciting player from them. He maybe a glory hunter, but he knows his stuff and gave me this overview:
The only people I could see us shifting from the 1st team are…
Bebe (Already loaned out to Besiktas for next season) Wes Brown (exciting?) Dimitar Berbatov (not gonna happen) Danny Welbeck (I’d say possible, but perhaps more likely on loan) John O’Shea (very outside bet. Unlikely) Jonny Evans (exciting?) Gabriel Obertan (Please do. This is very possible. There were rumours he’d confessed to not being good enough for UTD earlier in the year) Federico Macheda (Again, highly likely. I was surpised we kept Owen, so maybe 1 of Macheda or Welbeck could go) Darron Gibson (Not liked by many fans, but Fergie seems to stick with him, but I’d put him close to the top of possibilities) Tomasz Kuszczak (exciting?) Mame Biram Diouf (Bit of a forgotten striker. Very likely) But if we’re talking about season long loans, then some of our FA Youth Cup winning youngsters who have yet to make their presence felt… Nicky Ajose (exciting striker who scored lots of goals on loan last year) Joshua King (exciting striker/winger) Paul Pogba (French kid. New Paul Scholes supposedly) Matty James (Midfielder/Defender) Oliver Norwood (Northern Ireland international and apparently has Beckhamesque free-kicks) Will Keane (Exciting striker, Hat-trick star of our Youth Cup triumph) Ryan Tunnicliffe (supposed future star and future captain, in the Roy Keane mould) Ravel Morrison (this guy is a borderline criminal despite being labelled as a hybrid Scholes/Villa/Rooney, so I doubt we’d allow him to go off radar and destroy himself)

Not heard anything our end, Obertan isnt that bad, would be alright at your lot me thinks he'd clearly be given more of a run out you lot seem to work wonders as a dog home and might bring him out of his shell a bit.

Decent overview that!
On Twatter I read some Man Yoo fans speculating that if it goes right for them this window Park Ji Sung may become available. That'd be exciting but I can't see Fergie letting him go. But I thought that about O'Shea.
I can't see us going in for one of the young uns either. If it happens Wellbeck has to be the prime candidate imo.
redman-if Obertan came here he'd be on the bench for the most part. I really couldn't see the point unless Fergie and the player himself was happy with that.
