with russian tax marginally lower than the U.K (13-30%) it doesnt suprise me hes gone there as money was clearly the motivator in this case

I genuinely think either us or another team in the prem went for obina but ultimately he was looking for a long deal and a lucrative one of that. A player on £50k a week here will see around maybe £28-30k of that wheres in russia youd see much more of that (not that this sort of money is likely to be missed when on such a high wage)

Good luck to him.
He's never going to play for a team that's going to win trophies in a good league anyway.
And if some mad bloke in Russia is going to pay you a salary far beyond your market value in any sane football economy, I'd advise him to take the money and run.
I'd imagine those Russian winters will ensure he's begging for a move this time next year though!
