Delap is still the best we have, live with it! Yeh this myth could be justifiable 3 years ago but now, what does he actually contribute to the team (aside from the throws)? Hes looking horribly off the pace, carried week in week out, if I was being really critical, i''d say the lack of competence in th centre against City cost us the cup. Its so clear hes past it (its an over used phrase but applicable for Delap). The role Delap has at the minute is unquestionably the easiest on the pitch, i learnt that from playing the defensive midfield role for many years myself. He sits in front of a solid back 4, has a clear vision of a pitch, time to pick a pass (which he fails to do time and time again), time to make a challenge (which he mistimes time and time again)....in fact, what does Delap do/have to do apart from work arrrd. Here are the rules for the Delap role i guess: 1) Dont pass to a Stoke player 2)Dont run forward whatsoever unless in extreme circumstances (in other words "stay in the cage Rory" 3) Dont create 4) mistime tackles 5) Get knackered after 20 mins 6) Dare i say it "dont score goals" This is all my opinion (and i speak for quite a few others i'm sure). Delap was decent at reading the game a couple of years back, and was a little more competent and confident on the ball...these days he doesnt want to be anywhere near the round thing. So could someone please tell me, please, what is Delap's role? He curently has the easiest position on the park by some distance, which is essentially, tidying up,if he fucks up hes got the big men behind him backing him up. I find it hilarious that some used to comment on Whitehead having the most difficult role on the pitch simply because he ran and ran and ran. I forgot to add, Delap is a fantastic pro and a shame many dont follow his work ethic on and off the pitch, but does that warrant a place in a Premier League Stoke City XI on 10 k a week? God no. Whelan is no.1 in our current centre midfield, he is at least a little more comfortable on a football pitch with a touch of vision.

How come Whelan, Whitehead and Wilson all have their better games when playing alongside Delap? Not a coincedence is it...

Thats correct, Delap does a lot of work for the team and his midfield partner, which allows the team and his midfield partner to perform better Without Delap, we are not as effective as a team. Fair enough his passing is not the best, but his work off the ball (which often unnoticed by the supporters) is crucial to the way we play. He always covers for Wilko when he overlaps Pennant etc...

Delap is 35 this season. A great player and a very nice bloke. If anyone can not see that we now need a younger midfielder, well ...........

I have never bought the whole "work off the ball often unnoticed" theory, people used to say this to me after we had won a game, but i knew deep down it wasnt me who won the game! I was just chilling in front of the back 4 tidying up, and spraying a pass (which Rory cant do ). Pulis plays Delap/Whitehead and Diao because of their positioning, they lack the quality to escape th cage and that suits Tone's style...but having said that I get the feeling he will be improving on this area this summer because it cost Coates cash at the end of the season and contributed enormously to us losing out on a trophy. We absolutely murdered Bolton in the semis, and yet Delap did not have an outstanding game, even by his current mediocore standards, what does this tell us? Do you really want to see Rory starting league games next season?

Nobody has said anything different Suffolk! I was merely winding WFW and rossi up too! But I so still think he's the best we've got. Obviously we need 2 in to replace him and Whelan.

do we not want to see his throwins fly across europe? I do If he wants to play in Europe thats fine, he should remain a squad player, but not a premier league player !

This boy was a sensational player a couple of years ago, and still young enough to do well. Crazy but fun that his name is even remotely linked with ours, however tenuous.
I still think Delap has a role to play in the squad, though.

Well he's at Monaco now, you'd have a job spotting him in Spain. Also worth noting that under previous Real Madrid establishments, he was a top player, and a regular. Don't necessarily think Lass is better, just the signing of Alonso, plus Khedira under Mourinho in addition to a long-term injury led to him moving elsewhere.
He's a top, top player, and whilst the link looks entirely implausible, I'd be over the moon should be have any sort of chance whatsoever.

Mahamadou Diarra could pursue his career in England. After spending an unconvincing six months at relegated Monaco, the Malian international midfielder, who is now free, would not leave unaffected the English from Stoke City, who will contest the third qualifying round of the Europa League. -

brill signing if true,we need more quality and would link up with whelan well You can't depend on Whelan to perform consistently. At best we'll get 10 ish decent games out of him a season. Even with a class player like Diarra we'll still need another midfielder. (ideally Whitehead's replacement)

Like Collison/Noble/Jenas ect.
