How could you miss "Junior" off the Belgian list?! What a gem he was.

Can anyone remember the time (very late 60s?) when we nearly signed Carlos Babington - Argentinian player, possibly full back. This was of course long before the days when overseas players became routine at all clubs - and John Mahoney/Alex Elder/George Kinnell/Terry Conroy were considered exotic.
As I recollect, the deal was trailed endlessly in the Sentinel - the equivalent of the unreliable transfer rumours that feature heavily on this site and other sources - but was presumably fiction. Needless to say it never happened.
Pity, because we could have teamed him up with Eddie Bovington (from WHU) and our very own Keith Bebbington.

Obscure Italian reference - we were linked with a centre half about 10 years ago called Mirko Taccola - I think he came over to train with us, but I am not sure if I am imagining him playing in a pre-season friendly, before we decided he was shit!
Another Belgian was Jim Smet, of course Mikael Hansson the Swede, Jan Dirk Schreuder another Dutchman, Herik Risom another (far from great) Dane.
Struggling with a Spanish Stoke player though.

It was hardly fiction.
Stoke got as far as applying for a work permit, but as happened on a number of occasions because it was Stoke it was rejected.

Speaking of Belgians I'm surprised to see our very own Oulare missed off the list. I know he was technically Guinean but I think he counts.
Now a 'slumlord' in Brussels apparantly.
