Thanks god for that. Thought you were going to give us some bad news.
A genuine football fan. Always remember him waxing lyrical about us after we got promoted under Lou on one of those videos he use to do.
Was absolutely brilliant when he use to be on with Danny Kelly

If you like Danny Baker, you must follow him on Twitter, his genius is the only thing that keeps me intrested in the super injunction infested gossip trap. For those intrested His nickname is "prodnose".

The bloke is a peerless radio broadcaster. His BBC Radio London weekday show is also excellent, as was his early morning Radio 5 show in the 90s. Everything about what that station became (5 Live) was exactly as he predicted - repetitive, dumbed down, muzak-style journalism, relying shamelessly on callers with ill thought through and unsubstantiated opinions.
The same could be said of 606, which (as he sometimes fondly recalls) he invented. Anyone whose blood pressure can still stand to listen to another Big 4 fan ringing in to say "I wasn't actually at the game, but I think [Manager] has got the tactics wrong and should go" has missed a treat if they missed the Baker days.
Perhaps Pets Win Prizes was a cul de sac, but so far as radio is concerned, sanity, wit and originality in an increasingly homogenised broadcasting world.
Welcome back indeed.

That the BBC thought David Mellor was a suitable successor for Danny says everything that needs to be said about the very lame service that is Radio 5. (Colin Whateverhisnameis thinks he and Pat Nevin are the witty off the wall angle on sport - sadly they are totally self indulgent and as funny as toothache)

Whats good about it lordb?? The daytime programming is bland, and the sports element gives far too much time too dire activities such as tennis, formula 1 and athletics - its football coverage is totally centered around half a dozen clubs !

I remember Danny Baker as a scribe in the NME from the late-70s. This was around the same time Tony Parsons, Charles Shaar Murray, Nick Kent, Julie Birchill, and Paul Morley were there also. That was some talent pool of journos; and Danny held his own with the best of them. Big character and funny man too. Well done Danny, glad you're back. (Please tell that Micky Quinn he is a scouse geordie arse-lickin' toe-rag. When playing, he made Jon Parkin look like Luke Chadwick (on amphetamine).

the wooden bowtie 1 is under the heading gordon if this helps. Just hearing Danny was back on made me head to my ipod and hunt for the bow tie call (great minds eh Alan?). Possibly the funniest thing I have ever heard anywhere, ever. Even the Mrs creases up any time I put it on and she hates football.

Welcome back indeed. well said I got through onto his radio 5 breakfast show on two occasions - to confess a misdemeanor and to give strange menu items , namely the Wigan delicacy of a meat pie in a barm with red cabbage The guy is brilliant. Mike Parry is not fit to lick his boots
