03/08/06 Karl Henry leaves Stoke to join Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 24 year old goes for an initial £100,000 which could rise to £175,000 after a number of appearances and the deal includes a 15% sell-on clause
i wonder if that is still in effect

In a different article: "For Stoke to move on (and attract managers of Burley's calibre) we have to get our finances in order. To do this we need to remove the deadly duo of Coates and Humphries, as they contribute nothing to the cause, but just enjoy the high life at the club's expense." Amazing how things change.

To be honest a lot of what's written there was perfectly true back then, and to a lesser extent still is. Not the overall stuff about Pulis not taking us forward, but the points about some of his specific foibles.
Pulis has always had an annoying habit of forcing square pegs into round holes, even when you think he's found the perfect balance, he's only ever one brainwave away from a striker on the left wing. Sometimes it works and players perform better in their new position than they did in their old (wilson for example), but there were times when I used to be punching the ground in frustration as Carl Asaba plodded his way down the wing, just as I tear my hair out now when I see Rory lining up there for no reason.
I'm just hoping that he's going to stick with the two wingers tactic now, as we have unsurprisingly been a much better team since Tone adopted this more adventurous approach.
