We could finish 14th, above Wigan! I'd cry, like a baby

Agree with everthing what davef's wrote.
When you've got as many injuries as we have you've got to pick your fights, tonight isn't one we would of won. Sunday is a different story.

Did anyone really think our reserves could match their first team. Great song. Just a bit. Classic DC

Look at the bigger picture.
Tonight has hammered another nail into Wenger's coffin.
We win on Sunday to; a) ensure at least 9th spot b) TP helps out his mates; Mad Mick and Olly I don't agree - the approach was evidently defendable due to injuries, tiredness and our paper thin squad compared to CITEH who are chock full of quality players. Get over it ... move on to Wigwam and hope that the summer brings the improvements we need in quantity of quality players who Tone can mould for the next campaign ;o) Spot on

As I said in my original post, I haven't lost sight of what we've achieved this season, even if we were to lose again on Sunday I'd still look back on this season as a major success just like any other Stokie would, I just found that so frustrating to watch tonight, as we clearly didn't try to win the match.

Everyone mentions no plan B I dont think there is a plan A away from home 3 pts from the last 30. Fuck it play 424 443 cus 442 aint workin and 451 means the 3 players in the middle have to hold onto the ball

look at the big picture 13 away defeats. as bad as the first season and we currently are one point better off than that season too. yes we have reached an fa cup final and got into europe BUT THE AWAY FORM AND PERFORMANCES ARE SHAMBOLIC - liverpool, whu, man city, sunderland, etc we have to pick up more points away from home.
i rang my dad up tonight when i saw the line up and he thought i was joking. i very nearly went to the bookies and put £10 on a 4-0 defeat. why does pulis make these decisions? playing danny collins you may as well play with 10 men.

Tonight should send a message to TP, despite over £60m sepnd we have a paper thin squad with no depth. There has to be serious movement in close season else we wil be in the same position as Wigan or Wet Spam given any serious injuries for the season.
Hopefully Stoke will wake up and smell the coffee, it's been a great season but thankfully no major injuries or suspensions.

As I see it ....
TP was correct to rest players after saturday with Wigan in mind.
We never had much of a chance tonight with a second string out.
This season has been awesome.
We have just been in an FA Cup Final......AN FA CUP FINAL!!!!!!!!!!!
I think TP has earned the right to feel he knows the best way to handle his own squad.

I thought we kept the ball well for good periods of the game in the first half, with the five in midfield, shame some of the fringe players were to nervous on the ball and gave it away at times letting the manc citeh break.
It's Obvious Pulis wrote this game off before we played, tryed to get a point but failed, sums our away season up to be honest! I think he will go for it vs Wigan tho.

yes he does know how to handle his squad, but he clearly has no great knowledge of how to win away games at this level 9 out of 57. don't get me wrong great season and yes an fa cup final is a massive achievement. however the league has been very poor this season and we have pissed points up the wall away from home. we have 46 points, with a half decent away form it would be 56 and knocking on the door of the top 6.
games like tonight where we take a defeat rile me because we may as well hand the points over before we even kick off.

I can't help but feel frustrated by it. I actually think if we had lost 4-0 tonight and fell to 10th below Bolton, but showed some intent from the off and tried to win the game, I probably wouldn't have done this thread. I can accept defeats, it's just the manner in which they come in sometimes that leaves me so angry.

I am furious that i had to watch such an inept performance, showed total disrespect for those of us that went , did we manage any attempts at goal?
The worst side of TP on show tonight , would much rather see some young lads included to at least give us some energy , it was pathetic to watch

By looking at that i've also noitced that had it been better we'd be in a bloody fantastic position but that's football for you. Sometimes it goes your way and other time you've fucking pricks like Lee Probert being an utter cock that they'll give you no chance in a match and give away free kicks that simply aren't that!

I think the only quibble you can have with tonight is that he should have perhaps given Shotton a full game and maybe had Cuvelier on the bench.
I applaud the commitment of those who shelled out £38 to watch, but you must have surely seen that coming? TP's hands were tied tonight by the injuries/fatigue to key men, and I was happy to only lose 0-3 in the circumstances.

No Stokie likes to see us lose, i had that horrible feeling in my stomach with every match we lost when i was 8, i still have it now, aged 49. It is always difficult coming to terms with losing such an important game like at Wembley [ look at Bolton, they have lost virtually every game since we stuffed them in the semi-final ], however, as much as tonights victory hurts, we should have faith in T.P and roar the lads in red and white to victory on Sunday. Stoke City is our family, and whilst our Stoke brothers had a rough night tonight, come Sunday we should show them our love and thanks for a brill season. We look forward to helping them to improve even further next season, surely that is our job. God bless all Stokies, you are the best.

As I say, I can accept defeats, it's just the manner in which they come sometimes that annoys me. Tonight was always going to be an uphill task given the players we had available and the fact our opponents were pushing for 3rd place, but we just didn't show enough intent tonight, and I find it hard to accept defeat when I know we haven't tried to win the match. Had we lost 4-0 tonight ( and fell to 10th in the process ) I wouldn't have done this thread if we had showed some ambition from the off, my gripe is the approach not the defeat. I'm not about to become a wrist slasher though ;D what we have achieved this season has been sensational and I'm confident we can bounce back on Saturday and end the season on a high.

One problem we had last year was two mard arse strikers causing wholesale disruption when we REALLY needed to sort out the midfield. Thankfully I don't think we're in that situation this year and so let's get to grip with that midfield. It's still looking championship and must be improved upon.

I never mind losing its how we lose tonight was awful in terms of a performance , of course we were stretched but stick a couple of youngsters on to give the team a bit of energy but not even to try and attack is so disappointing

I can't see what other approach we could have gone with to be honest. We went all out to win the FA Cup, thats why Ethers, Huth, Jones and Pennant all started despite carrying knocks.
If we finish 8th and not 9th then an extra £750,000 would be welcome yes, but at the end of the day we will still have £60million in Premier League television rights which is the main priority.

I very rarely post on here but I have just got home from the game and read this crap. Most of the pricks on here have not been tonight and spent £38? They probably didn't spend £40 odd quid either at Liverpool when super tony moved his very poor chess pieces around the board looking for a stalemate!! ?? What the f**k are we resting players for? City took the piss out of us tonight and as fans, we had to take it! I am not a critic of TP but these players are getting played a lot of cash and I certainly wouldn't rest them to play bloody Wigan? When I add this post, it would be nice to know how many of you actually went tonight and at Anfield etc etc? By the way this is NOT my cock is bigger than yours? But many seem to preach from................Yak Yak Yak I am boring myself?? Apologies!!

damo, if we had started the unfit Ethers, Huth, Jones and Pennant (and an older and knackered Delap) then theres a serious risk of long term injury. Ethers could have torn the same hamstring again, but this time with it being weak it could have torn even worse leaving him out for 9 months. Huth could have twisted his weak knee even more meaning he would be out for 3-4 months etc etc.
For the last 5-6 weeks we have played the same starting XI and they have played with 100% effort and passion for every game. Fair enough they are athletes, but truth be told after all of that work they are genuinly knackered. IF we had a stronger squad we could have mixed it up a bit more, but at the end of the day TP fielded his strongest and in form team every game and for that 5-6 weeks reaped the rewards.

Damo, As someone who dragged his 10 year old lad to Fulham, West Ham, Birmingham, Sunderland, Spurs, Bolton, Liverpool, Everton, Man Utd and a few more to mention, I agree with you. I didn't go tonight mainly as I though that it would be an understrength team, Iand we would get a pasting of the highest order. There is a lot of dead wood at the club which needs moving on. Tom Soares has had 3 x years of Premiership wages and has barely kicked a ball in anger, why we didnt get shot after 18 months is beyond me.

If you expected anything other than a pretty comprehensive defeat tonight, then you're living in cloud cuckoo loud. Arsenal's defeat on Saturday meant that Mancini was always going to field his strongest team tonight with that lucrative third automatic Champions League place up for grabs, while we were always going to be without Etherington, Huth, Pennant and almost certainly Jones. With Diao, Whitehead and Collins drafted in what were you expecting, seriously? We gave it a go. Our cause wasn't helped by the performance of one of the Premier League's worst referee's but there's absolutely no point getting wound up about tonight's game. TP is clearly targeting Sunday's game in which three points will almost certainly guarantee us an eighth place finish, our highest league place for 36 years and over £10M in prize money. Hopefully we'll get the job done on Sunday and be able to reflect on a great season. +10 We were playing away at the richest club in world football, who had beaten us in the cup final three days before and needed the points for automatic CL qualification.

I went the game tonight and what i saw is more or less what i expected. Problem is, if we get two or three injuries, we're knackered and struggle to compete. Cteh's bench is almost a dream; they can take replace four players and you do't notice the difference in their play. I'm digging my garden in search for oil tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
