Codcamper - yes these are based on those shirts. I guess i'm a bit of a traditionalist (hence the original adidas logos)
If I was designing the shirts the 1st kit would be pretty classic red and white stripes (front and back)
I'd like a second kit either to be similar in style to the first kit but in different colours (I loved the green and navy kit) or have some indication that our colours are red & white stripes
I also loved the 70's away kit with the diagional stripes but as I played around it looked like the current Man City kit
